Can MP Co-exist with GBPVR? (1 Viewer)

Hello Folks

Could someone please let me know whether MP can be installed on a PC that runs GBPVR?

I am keen to try MP and expect to be doing quite a bit of reading up and tinkering to get things up and running. In the meantime GB-PVR is running quite well and I don't want to uninstall it if possible.

Are there any incompatibilities that I should be aware of? More importantly, any steps to avoid problems with the use of MP or GBPVR?

Yes you can but it can be a bit of a hassle. I did that for a while where GBPVR records the shows and I view them in the nicer MP interface through MyVideos. I got tired of having to close MP, open GBPVR (gui), set up my tv show recordings, close GBPVR(gui), open MP. In the end its easier to use just one program.

You're not going to want both of them running at the same time (obviously) as only one will be able to access your tuners. Also, they both will probably start with windows which will be messy for a couple of minutes while you try to close one, so you'll want to deactivate "start with windows" in MediaPortal (or GBPVR) for the time being . Other than those two small potential problems, I can't see you running into any major conflicts.

Depending on how GBPVR is using codecs, you might have to uncheck "use MPA/MPV" in MP's installer.
Reason: Those codecs have a high merit, so windows (or GBPVR) might favour those codecs. Could be that they won't perform good with GBPVR, but that I don't know. If you wanna be super-careful, uncheck that option in the installer. The rest shouldn't affect your GBPVR installation. Of course we cannot give you a guarantee, cause we have no influence on how GBPVR is using the system and/or filters, files, whatever.
In theory there should be no problem, of course. But you know... Theory.

Almost forgot: When not using MPA/MPV as MPEG codecs, you need others for MP. But I guess that's already done on your system, assuming GBPVR is using the same technique (DirectShow). If it is NOT using DirectShow, forget everything above about MPA/MPV, then you're ready to go in either way (keeping the comments of the above poster about tuners in mind).

I'm doing something similar. I've been using GB-PVR for a while now, but I want to move to MediaPortal. I've installed MediaPortal and configured it as normal, and it seems to work perfectly well.

The only thing is that I use a hacked MCE driver for GB-PVR
(in conjunction with HIP) to use with my MCE remote.

When I want to use the remote in MediaPortal while I'm experimenting, I update to the standard remote driver and use the MCE Replacement Plugin in MediaPortal - this takes care of my IR blasting needs.

Then I just switch back. Apart from that, I haven't noticed anything different - and the remote issue is just really a choice on my part.
