    Hi there...

at first: i didnt post Logs, because this isnt shown in Logs, dont know why...

I have an Multiseat-Installation, using UNC.
    TV-Server is a WHS (2010), Client is Win7 Ultimate, 32bit.

I mapped the Recording-/Timeshift Path on Client as a Net-Drive, using Drive Letter "E" and "U". In UNC Settings, i defined this as Folder for timeshift Files and Recordings. Did the same on WHS, same Drive-Letters for Rec/TS.

When i want to view some TV-Recordings, a Message comes up "cant play blabla" (German: Datei kann nicht wiedergegeben werden) and no Thumb is shown. If i go to the Video-Menü into the Recordings-Folder, the Recordings are played as well, but also here no Thumb...

The Folder on WHS is reachable from Client-side, Files can be played over Explorer with MediaPlayer or VLC.
Then i tried in UNC Settings Folder "\\whs\...recordings" and "\\whs\...Timeshift" - same. Not playable.

If i disable UNC and enable RTSP, the Files are played as well, directly from TV-Recordings.

In Logs is nothing show, tried Debug- and Information-Level Logs on Server an Client Side. In Logs isnt also shown, that i wanted to view a Recording.

    Can someone confirm/test this?
I think, maybe this isnt a Problem of MePo, but i dont know where i have to start the search...

P.S.: sorry for my bad english...

    Thanks,
    Pony
    :D

    Hi,

This is not at all clear to me, but I think there are a number of issues.

First of all, WHS is not a supported OS for MediaPortal. Some people have got it to work, but there are features necessary for MediaPortal that WHS does not include.

Secondly, the discussion of unc paths confuses me. Are you trying to run multiseat TV using unc rather than the default rtsp?

Single-seat (MediaPortal running on your server) will use unc paths as default, so you don't need to configure anything special there. The first step is to get single-seat running with default settings. Try using the standard directories (or not mapped network drives) first. Then we can see if the problem is related to unc paths/mapped network drives.

Is there a reason why you cannot simply 'share' the recording folder if you want this to be directly accessible on the client? I do this with Windows 7/Vista network, and it works fine.

I Know, but that isn the Reason, it worked for me over a few Years. Never had Problems. I know what there is to do, that this is possible an did it for a few Times on several Machines successfully. ;)

    Yes, over debugoptions.

I tis a Multiseat-Installaton, no MediaPortal o WHS, only TVServer. Cant test it on WHS, no Monitor, etc.

Of course, the Recording folder is a Share on WHS, the Client has Access to it and it can Read/Write.

But there is the Problem: why cant play Recordings out of the Share from WHS or as mapped Network-Drive out of TV-Recordings-Menu and only from Video-Menu?

    Thx for your Reply,

I have absolutely no idea and no way of knowing, because you have not provided logs.

yes, but this Problem isnt shown in Logs, as i posted. I dint know why. In logs you can not see, that i wanted to view a Recording and no Error is shown. Because of this no Logs.

A (german) Error is shown, like this:

    image.php

and in this Post, you can find Logs, i provided because of this Problem:

Do you have your log level set to 'Debug' ? This will help.

Even if the logs do not show the error, they might show what was happening before the error.

Maybe MP is not logging anything for trying to play a recording because for some reason it is not getting that far.

Without the logs, no-one can help you. Whether the logs show anything of value - please leave that decision to the developers!
