newbie trying to setup mediaportal. followed guides and setup test folder of about 20 videos. all videos been playing fine with WMC and VLC. typical codec is H264 MPEG4 AVC part 10 with mp4a audio.

I am unable to play a single Video file of any type using LAV or ffdshow or any others
Installed ffdshow and haali plus numerous other suggestions and nothing
media is on a NAS network share for what that is worth

The fact that the file is accessed via a network share combined with the fact that none of the media information has been retrieved tells me that this is most likely to be an issue with network share access rather than codecs.

Are you sure that any security software you have installed (anti-virus, firewall etc.) will allow MediaPortal to access your network?
Are you sure that you've configured the network share access in such a way that MediaPortal can access it?

    Regards,
    mm

    thanks MM
that sounds familiar, i think other systems needed like a UNC path
i will try some different mapping options and advise
curiously when the scan is done it seems to be able to look up titles on imdb etc ??
but to not be able to actually play the video
as a test i copied one file to the local drive and i get an error about the codec now

Can you please post log files showing what happens when you try to play the file locally?

    Hi
Just seen your reply and in the meantime made security chages on Nas and remapped network shares and now making some progress.
files are not playing but i am at least getting a codec error - have attached log of problem plus screen dump
    upload_2015-3-22_19-5-56.png

also posted my codecs screen which is a bit of a mess given all the fiddling i have done

I did not yet try your suggestion and play same file locally, let me know if i need to do this

It does look better than previously. At least MediaInfo retrieval is now successful.
I'm not 100% sure what the problem is now, but I wonder if it might be splitter-related.
Could you try to use the LAV splitter, LAV video codec and LAV audio codec for all?
If that doesn't work, please try the local playback again with log files.

    HI
well success, i think iy was an errant check box ticked as per the screen dump below. in the video player section
soon as i removed it all came good
my bad for fiddling around with too many settings
    upload_2015-3-22_19-28-6.png

anyway that one video file is now playing from the NAS and also from local drive
this is all with the lav codecs so all that ffdshow stuff was a waste of effort
have played some other files and so far all is good.

appreciate the quick response and looking forward to tweaking MP to improve on my HTPC experience

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, that would do it. :)

These things happen. Hopefully in the process of fixing this you learnt a bit more about MP than you otherwise would have.
