TV - HTPC Connection: Sub-D & stereo audio jack (direct) + HDMI (via Receiver)

Hi,
I'm using 2 audio & video outputs -
1. HDMI for both audio and video to my receiver.
2. Sub-D + audio jack directly to my TV.
When the receiver is on #1 above is the default direct sound device and when the receiver is off #2 is the default sound device.

When the receiver is off, I can play any type of media (movies, TV, radio, etc.) and hear it in stereo on my TV.

My problem is when the receiver is on (sound output is via HDMI) -
I can hear AC-3 and DTS correctly.
I CANNOT hear PCM (for example radio or TV audio).

Note that if I play PCM through players other than mediaportal, I can hear it correctly via the HDMI output.

I'm assuming that this is an audio codec configuration issue but I've tried practically every possible configuration on both mediaportal and Shark007 (which I'm using as my codec package).

Help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I just recognized that my problem is even more basic -
While I'm on the audio jack output I can hear audio from all types of media played AND ALSO hear the sound of the mediaportal menus.
While I'm on the HDMI output I can ONLY HEAR DD and DTS from mediaportal (I can't hear the sounds when browsing through the menus nor PCM from any type of media - Video, radio, live TV, etc.).

I CAN HEAR PCM when using other players such as WMP through the HDMI output.

The problem is NOT a codec problem as both mediaportal and WMP use ffdshow audio decoder when playing the same media file...

Any ideas?

Run MP in windowed mode (so you can use the system tray icons) - play something in MP using HDMI output, then open the Windows 'volume mixer' from the systray - make sure the MediaPortal volume slider is set to a sensible value....

That was it! Thank you Tony.
I've been trying to solve this for weeks.

I had no idea (and would have never thought) that Mediaportal has its own volume control in the Windows Volume Mixer. It was set to 0...

    Thanks again!

It's a general Win7/Vista thing - every app that uses sound automatically gets it's own volume slider when it runs....
