Can't find video files (1 Viewer)

I've just installed MediaPortal on my computer, an i3 on an Intel DH67GD board, using onboard video and an Asus XONAR.

Adding video folders in the Config utility doesn't populate the Videos section in the player though. I've tried both local and shared directories, all the video file type I'm interested in (all of which show up in the file types section of the MP config utility), and still nothing. It's not a permission error I don't think, I'm using my own account to run Media Portal, and have full permissions on all the files.

I've added a couple of directories using the Config utility, shared and local. I also notice that I can only tick one directory at a time?? Is that usual?

I also noticed that calling up the Videos screen shows Year:1900 and Runtime:0, with 'no results found' as if it were searching. Those fields aren't editable though.

Then I started with playlist editing, which will show me the directory structure, bu no the files within that directory, eg I have subdirectories filled with documentaries, I get the directory OK but there appears to be nothing in it.

Could someone please help me with this, it's becoming very frustrating.

Thanks, yeah, I looked through the Wiki and searched the forums before posting, I'd be very embarrassed to posta question without looking around first.

Turns out I've fixed the problem, I think... going into Videos>Left Arrow>Switch View>Shares gave me the whole directory structure, complete with files. I also 'discovered' the F9 key.

Am I right, then, that using playlists is the best way to organise things in MediaPortal? I have all my music and videos in a pretty decent directory structure.

This is all very new and VERY cool to me. I built this new system recently and have only now started turning it into an HTPC rather than a computer with media players installed.

Hi Rob

Shares view shows you the files as they are on your HDD. The other views show videos that have been added to the video database. The advantage of using the video database is that you can add ****-data (DVD covers, "fan art", blurbs, actor info etc.), which can really take your HTPC looks to the next level.
