I have some .avi files that just wont play in MP..the play in other players but not MP any ideas why?

You have not got the system codecs that WMP11 needs to play them, if wmp cannot play then neither can MP, thats why i use the Vista Codec pack (works in xp) cos i'm lazy , and i know everything will play in both wmp and MP as they should.

I do not blame you, can you say which codecs or codec packs you have installed, just no one here's a mind reader

Core...Haal and Divx are the only things i have installed...i guess i technically dont have a pack installed but i dont want to over wright the ones i have

add ffdshow to the mix and you should be good. with that you technically would not need the official divx codec as well.
