Just got live TV working New Years Day, but the dvr-ms files recorded by MP will not play.... whether it's in MP, WMP9, or whatever... get nothing but a black screen with no audio.

This is also the case when I try to timeshift. I'm watching TV, turn timeshifting on, screen goes black. I turn timeshifting back off, TV comes back.

I already have DirectX9.0c and WMP9 installed on XPSP2. Would updating to WMP10 help? Other suggestions?

Thanks...

Afaik ATSC is still a work in progress, so its quite possible that timeshifting doesnt work. If TS doesnt work then neither will recordings so that might be your answer right there. Grab a dvr-ms file off the net and give it a try.

Haven't grabbed a dvr-ms file off the net yet, but I did copy one of MP's dvr-ms files over to another PC through the network.

The dvr-ms file opened up and played in WMP9 in the other PC, albeit out of sync. Editing the file in VideoRedo left it even more out of sync.

I have still another PC in still another room that can record dvr-ms files. Maybe I'll see if MP can play that file through the network.....

Edit: MP can't play dvr-ms files recorded with the other PC (also with FusionHDTV3 but recorded with WatchHDTV), either.

Guess I'll install WMP10 and see what happens.....

Synopsis: I've got this problem as well, only it flashes a "Mediaportal has encountered a problem and needs to close" window, then goes to fullscreen and freezes on the first frame of the recording. This completely locks up my system so I can't control anything. The error dialog is still active in the background though, so when I press enter it shuts MP down and I get the control back. The same files play fine in Windows Media Player 10 on the same computer and on my other computer over the network. I never had this problem with 0.1.3.0, but once I upgraded to 0.2 it arrived.

Edit: I can watch tv with timeshifting, it's only when I start to navigate in the recording that I get the error -- if I pause or rewind or something like that. However, when I watch tv with timeshifting activated, audio and video is horribly out of sync. TV with timeshifting turned off works fine.

Today I uninstalled MP and deleted the entire MediaPortal folder. After a complete reinstall the problem is gone, I can now play dvr-ms files. I only had the time to try the default settings (I think it's the Mpeg2Dec codec?) on one recorded file but that works fine. Unfortunatly I have to redo all my settings now, though.

I'll post back if the problem returns, then maybe we can pinpoint more exactly what causes it.
