I am trying to play dvr-ms files recorded by vista media centre, but when I try to play them from mediaportal the display flashes to the windows desktop for a second, then goes back to mediaportal but the file does not play it just goes back to the selection so i can pick other files and try to play them.

The files play fine in media player, so my machine is ok to play them.

Any ideas what I can do to get it working?

    Thanks

The only thing i can think of atm is rename the file extension to .mpg or .mpeg, you would need to unhide file extension in folder options, so you can see it.

Thought i could check this out, but on the new M$ wtv file extension (could not resist, just had to try it) but even WMP11 will not play those, as well as MP.

Well dvr-ms is a supported playback file still when trying to be played by adding to your Movie collection, according to config, damn have not got one to test, will see if i can get hold of one.

Thanks - I just tried with a new recording made from a vista machine today and that works, but I still have some that dont play in MP but are ok in vista mce or in media player.

I will try renaming them to mpg and see what happens
