CaptureCard definition for Videomate e650f (1 Viewer)

Hello,
I'd love to completely switch into MediaPortal and support the project more, but I just cannot get my tuner card working for Radio...

I have a VideoMate 650, inside the TV Server configuration is appears to think it is a VideoMate 800.
I say this because the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file has the names it lists under the 800's XML entries...

I can tune the card as is and watch TV, but cannot get radio to work at all...

There appears to be no actual XML entry for a VideoMate 650 in the definitions file...

How do I find the details to add to the XML file to get radio working (too) for Media Portal? ... Or is there another way I can get Radio working?

... P.S. When I click 'scan radio stations' is just states that radio is not supported by this card (prolly not the 800? but mine does).

... P.S.S. Radio DOES work as a native application that came with the card on disc, so I am pretty sure the problem is just the XML stuffs.

If you are using the TV Server (TVE3), then the contents of the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file are irrelevant. The
CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file is only used with the old TVE2 (in-built TV engine).

I think you need to attach your MediaPortal log files to help diagnose this issue ...

Ok, Hello again!
Sorry for the long delay. I (we) had a baby, then all the sleeplessness stuff, then had to do christmas shopping and other stuff and blah == 'no time for playing with media PC'...
In the last few weeks I also tried several more things, including RC4 and a clean install of Windope eXtra Problems (XP).
So I have more time again to either get this thing working or give up once and for all since I have no more ideas as to what is wrong, it just wont work...

Unfortunately I have been trying since RC1.
Now using RC4.
I assumed the card-defs XML file because of previous versions and because when I install RC4 even the file is still there.

I can now verify that the actual tuners the configuration lists as available (as an 800) are correct, the 800 is the card-family and the newest card driver also reflects this.
In the "TV Server" configuration I get two "TV Servers" listed in the left panel under "TV Servers-->Computer" and three in the right-hand pane when I click the "Computer" TV Server.
The two left-panel names are:
"1 DVB-T VideoMate 2388x BDA Tuner/Demod"
"2 Analog VideoMate 2388x Tuner"
Then for the left panel I get the two above plus:
"RadioWebStream Tuner (builtin)".

If I click on (1) in the left-hand panel I can scan for TV channels in the next right-hand panel and this is fine.
If I click on (2) in the left-hand panel I have three buttons to 'scan for channels', 'add VHS channels', 'scan for radio channels'.
I can scan for tv and the 'add' button does nothing useful, but when I click the 'scan for radios' button I get the message:
"This card does not support Radio"

The "Compro FM 2" software however DOES play radio, and Winamp plays radio using the 'TV Plugin' for it...

This is a second annoyance, I found a plugin "https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Plugins/AudioorRadio/MyFMRadio/" that should allow me to use Winamp to add the stations... But then HOW do I add the dll's to the menu? My configuration options for Media Portal under the "Home" plugin look NOTHING like the screen shots. So HOW do you customise the Media Portal menus and add your own programs / folders?

When I go to the "Radio Channels" tab in the left TV Server configuration tab I can then add all the radio stations I like, using the "General" and "FM Radio" tabs, I can even assign them a mapping to a card (1, 2 or the web-stream). I save and exit, then start Media Portal and nothing happens. I click the stations, a 'clicked' noise happens, then nothing, no pause like it is thinking or anything, I can scroll etc and click more...

I don't understand how this can be so hard... there MUST be something simple somewhere... mustn't there?

I'd still love assistance getting this working as I reeeaaally dislike MCE2005 and microcrud and prefer supporting open-source...

As for logs, I can include them but they don't say anything useful... nothing about radio or failed to start this or that...

I need assistance finding out why radio just plain will not work and getting it working.

I also would love someone to tell me how I customise the main menu, and hopefully how to add other programs to get the winamp-radio-fix working... is this only doable by making a skin? I mean "My Music", "My TV", 'my this and that'.... The kind of childish 'mine mine mine gimmie gimmiiiie' attitude microsoft started with Win98, well deerrrr it is MINE, 'my computer', can't I give it some USEFUL or nice name? Plus my media-pc is not just 'mine', it is for the whole household, so should at least read 'our'... Again there must be an easy way to customise this basic level of thing I have overlooked, other than mutilating 'strings' XML files... I mean for such a seemingly and correctly data-driven program, I'd have thought it easy to change the things you see the most when using it, the menu names etc...

I have been stuffing around trying to get radio and what i thought were simple things changed how I'd like them for too long, so apologies for sounding cynical somewhat. I am a software engineer by trade so besides getting tired of having to resort to hacks for things i thought should be easy, like getting a 'supported' radio card working, any technical questions or suggestions for things I can try with the PC or hacks I haven't already tried will be greatly appreciated still too.

When I click "Preview" for an "FM Radio" type of "Radio Channel" in the "TV Server Configuration" I get the message: "Preview failed:NoTuningDetails"

Clarify editing-the-main-menu request:
1) How do I rename "My Music" to "noisy-stuff" for example. My "config" options for the "Home" plugin in "Media Portal Configurations", under "Plugins", --> "Windows", has under the second tab only the menu list and a box below saying 'edit menu item' that is not an editable field...
2) How do I add a new main-menu item / section called "Bobs Tools", and then add "Screwdriver" and "Hammer" as two applications to launch (using the multishortcut dll thing at least will do) from within it...

Because the logs say 'BASS_' errors, I tried the alternate BASS player replacement from plugins at: "https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/startdown/990/"... But all that did was stuff up the plugins section of the "MediaPortal Configuration" program such that now it shows blank tabs, ie no plugins... they are there but not shown and hence not able to be configured... yaya. now yet another reinstall.....

ok, no need to worry... after stuffing around with both media portal and microsalt's MCE 2005, I have come to the conclusion that Media Portal started out better, but has ended up LESS configurable and LESS useful to me than MCE, which has not changed since 2005, now i know how to configure MCE...
So, I will be using and configuring Media Portal how I want a media computer to look and act and no longer be bothering with media portal...
