I have both Media Portal and MCE 2005 and I am setting up a CCTV card for cameras in and around my house and I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate this into the television section of either program or if it will automatically work or if there is an app out there for media portal to do this sort of thing.

if your CCTV streams the video data, you could set up a IPTV channel to connect to it. Never been tried before but the concept is there in MP.

    IPTV??

 How do I go about setting up an IPTV channel. I have a cctv camera program that has a live stream feed and I was hoping to incoporate this into MP or MCE2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did this by writing my own app that poped up infront of MP when there was movement. I used VLC to stream across the network (where the Camera was connected) and my app used the activeX vlc component to recieve the stream. This was good for alerts but I could not watch it continuously and there were also draw backs with MP not having exclusive rights to the desktop.

I did find that the IPTV plugin ( https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/plugins-47/iptv-ut-plugin-13777/ or https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mytv-engine-0-2-95/iptv-patch-mediaportal-0-2-3-0-a-32330/ ) could be used but was not suitable for alerting purposes (popup in front when motion detected). IPTV could be configured to connect to the video stream. You could also now try the inbuilt WebRadio Stream. I have not tried it myself but it may show video as well as sound.

I did also look into another open source CCTV app called ZoneMinder, but I was using a webcam which was not supported which made development for a plugin a real pain. I was looking at poping up a JPG when the motion was detected using a java app on ZoneMinder and a plugin in MP but MP had restriction to only show local stored jpg's and not network ones. When my budget recoups from some major bills, will look into it again.

MP has an achilies heel at the moment where it will only show one video source at a time due to the uses of DirectX9. maybe MP2 down the track will have the ability or Picture in Picture which will suit CCTV to the ground....

Thanks for all the info. I think I will just have to wait til MP2 comes out. I was hoping to view 3-4 cameras at once. Again thanks for all the ideas.

you could look at zoneminder or similar CCTv apps that provide a streaming website that montages all cameras one the same sceen. Then within MP1 use the web browser plugin to view that site. Again for notification of movement this could not be achieved without designing a plugin (if at all possible).
