The CD/DVD Speed settings don't work with my new equipment.
I have a Samsung SATA DVD drive connected to the mainboard above.
The drives does not care about the speed settings, it always runs on high speed.
Is it possible that the AHCI controller features are reponsible for this effect?
The onbard SATA controller is set to AHCI within the BIOS.
I already tested it with Nero Drivespeed and AnyDVD. Same effect -> always full speed.

Does anyone here have the same problem?

I have tried MagicSpeed on my Samsung SH-D163B DVD ROM player and it did help to quiet the drive, but as soon as my HTPC resumed from stand-by the drive is in speed mode again.

So what I did is to google for SH-D163B_SB01.BIN and I found one that was modified to get a higher speed (up to 16 x for reading DVDs) I compared the Bin file with the original BIN file from Samsung and patched it to limit the speed at 4x for all media. I flashed the drive with sfdnwin.exe and now I have a super silent drive.
