Change in TV-Server "Channel number" behavior from 1.5 to 1.6 (1 Viewer)

I noticed two changes in the behavior of the "Channel number" functionality from MediaPortal v1.5 to v1.6. Were these two changes intentional or are these bugs?

1) An updated "Channel number" is no longer reflected as the channel number shown in the EPG (Requires MediaPortal Config: TV/Radio->TV->Show channel numbers to be enabled)
<= v1.5 behavior: you could manually update "Channel number" and each customization would be reflected in the EPG
v1.6 behavior: manual updates to "Channel number" are ignored and all channels are shown sequentially in the EPG based on the order of the channels in the TV Server configuration

2) Performing "Scan for channels" on a tuner overwrites the customized "Channel number" configurations
<= v1.5 behavior: you could manually update "Channel number" and customizations would persist after doing a channel scan
v1.6 behavior: a channel scan overwrites customized channel numbers with the auto-detected values

To ensure we're talking about the same "Channel number" field, I'm referring to the one on this TV Server configuration screen (Channel number = 2 for channel Name WBBM-DT):

First, the channel number field that you're referring to was added in MP 1.3. From then on, if you didn't have "show channel numbers..." enabled, any numbers you were seeing in MP were indexes. In other words, as far as I'm concerned "show channel numbers..." was always required and this is no bug.

This could be an ATSC bug, but if anything it would have been introduced in MP 1.5 when CableCARD tuner support was added. No changes have been made in MP 1.6 that could have affected this. Logs required please.
