First of all I really appreciate all the help!

I am using MediaPortal 0.2.3.0. (i am not using a tv server)

Right now my original stb (coolsat 5000) is working, but it stops working every now and then and I wanted to test mediportal with my dish 311 stb, hence my changing stbs.

So as of right now I have MCE Replacement plug in 1.0.4.2 installed. It is configured using the built in code for a coolsat stb. When I get in to the configure external channel changing and type in say 105 for a test then press the test button the little light on the blaster blinks and then the channel changes on my coolsat.

But when I launch MediaPortal and go the the tv section the guide and click on the channel I want to watch the blaster does not light up and the channel does not change on my coolsat.

On my TV Channels in mediaportal setup if I double click on them to edit the properties on the genral tab I have the name set and the channel number of 250000 which is greyed out (ie I can't change the channel number there). On the External tab under typed I have it set to: Received by external settop box Input via: SVHS, and channel number on set top box to correspond with the real channel number on my coolsat.

Thank you again for all the help!

Well I am not the good at looking at logs. But I think I might have found something in the mediaportal.log file.

In there is says:

2008-02-16 10:48:10.393256 [Info.][MPMain]: PlugInManager.Start()
2008-02-16 10:48:10.471387 [Info.][MPMain]: MCEReplacement: Starting (MCE Replacement Plugin 1.0.4.2 for MediaPortal 0.2.3.0)
2008-02-16 10:48:10.471387 [Warn.][MPMain]: MCEReplacement: MediaPortal internal MCE Remote support is enabled, this may cause unexpected behaviour.
2008-02-16 10:48:10.471387 [Info.][MPMain]: MAP: using default mappings for MCE Replacement
2008-02-16 10:48:10.487014 [Warn.][MPMain]: Cannot load external channel configurations, there are no TV cards registered
2008-02-16 10:48:10.596397 [Info.][MPMain]: MCEReplacement: Started

So I would venture a guess that the line saying "cannot load external channel configurations, there are no TV cards registered" is the kicker.

I am just not sure how to fix the problem.

ok, I notice a couple of problems here:

2008-02-16 10:48:10.471387 [Warn.][MPMain]: MCEReplacement: MediaPortal internal MCE Remote support is enabled, this may cause unexpected behaviour.

Can you disable MediaPortal's built in MCE Remote support? Or does MCE replacement plugin not work by itself?

2008-02-16 10:48:10.487014 [Warn.][MPMain]: Cannot load external channel configurations, there are no TV cards registered

This is a worry. I'll do some more testing and see what I can find.

2008-02-16 10:48:16.690615 [Info.][ProcessExternalChannel]: Exception :confused:ystem.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
    at MediaPortal.Plugins.MCEReplacement.BlastIR(String fileName, String port)

And this one shouldn't happen either ...

But this log does give me some things to look for now ... so I'll see what I can do and get back to you.

    Cheers,

    OK,

I think I see the problem.

The blast is failing because the device access has not been started. But there is no error message about why it failed to start ... which means that it was told not to start.

if (!MessageModeEnabled && (MCERemoteEnabled || DifferentRemoteEnabled))

This is the code that determines whether to start the device interface.

    Basically it says this:

If you have put the plugin into message mode, don't start the device.
If you have enabled the MCE remote (checkbox in config) or you are using the "different remote" feature then start the device.

I'm guessing that you have the MCE remote disabled in the plugin, but enabled in MediaPortal...

This logic is not applied when in the configuration app, only when MediaPortal itself starts.
    That is why it's failing.

To get the plugin to work you will need to disable the MediaPortal built-in MCE remote support and enable the plugin's remote support.

    Cheers,

    That worked for the blasting!

But now a have a new problem.

When I have mce remote enabled in the plug in the up, down, left, right and select commands are all sent twice, i.e. in the menu when I press up it is like I pressed it twice.

If I enable message mode then the directional keys on the remote work fine, but the menu, guide, info ect. stops working and it stops blasting.

Is there a setting in the plug in that would affect this?

ok, to get around the double-press of buttons problem you can do one of two things:

    A. Configure the plugin and go to the button mapping section, click Remove Replacement Driver Mappings.

    or

    B. Follow the instructions in my "You don't need the replacement driver" thread (linked in my signature).

I suggest you do A for now, but look at B later to see if you think that would be a good idea for you.

As for the numbers being sent twice ... Well, there is a Repeat setting in the STB setup area... maybe that's doing it. I've never heard of anyone having that problem before, so that's all I can think of for now.

If you can't fix it then send me the MediaPortal.log from an attempt, and also the MediaPortal.xml and ExternalChannelConfig*.xml files from the app data folder (if you can find it) so I can see the plugin settings.

    Cheers,

    :D

    That worked like a champ!

Wow I would have never figured that out on my own.

On the numbers it was not the channel numbers in the blasting but numbers on menu i.e. press 5 for guide it would press it twice. So that is fixed as well.

    Thank you!

    Well. . .

    I thought it was fixed.

The first problem of MCE replacement not blasting is fixed. But after a while 2-3 hours, or maybe its is the number of channel changes it will stop blasting.

As soon as I exit MediaPortal and re-launch it will work again for a while.

I am attaching the log of the last time it did this to hopefully help solve the problems.

I will also edit my registry as described in your post you don't need the replacement driver and let you know if that changes anything.

    Thanks for all the help!

Well I delete the keys from the reg and rebooted.

After that the arrow buttons on the remote as well and the select and info buttons did not work.

But the blasting did seem to work. Because of the lack of basic function with my remote I was not able to test for long.

If there is anything else I can try or info I can provide I can sure use the help.

    Thanks!!

Well I had a thought and for now it is working.

I remember that in the early post you said to "A. Configure the plugin and go to the button mapping section, click Remove Replacement Driver Mappings." or delete the reg keys as described in your post.

So I went to the mapping section of the plugin and hit reset on all the options. This has fixed the arrow and select keys not working with the reg keys removed.

I will play around with it and see if the blasting is more reliable this way.
