Changing channel starts playback of timeshift buffer!? (1 Viewer)

I have also seen this and a few others in other threads, but some of us don't even have EPG grabbing enabled whilst time shifting. Should this be classed as a bug now?

We need to get more information how to reproduce this issue as no one in the team is able to reproduce it (so it is almost impossible to fix currently).

- brodcaster used - Freesat/Sky UK
- what channels does it happen - More that one, but I will start writing down where and when from now on
- how often it happens (every time, randomly...) - Don't see it very often with me
- does different video & audio codecs change the behavior? - Only use MPC Video Dec, will try with others
- does it happen if only one DVB tuner/card is installed? - I have two tuners, perhaps others can confirm if they have one or two
- any other information that might be relevant - On one occasion I had livetv paused when changing channel from the EPG, which is more understandable why it might do it. But surely on a channel change a seek to the live point would be needed.

I've just upgraded from RC4 to 1.0 and noticed the same thing (it didn't happen before). I have a [dual] DVB-T card (freeview HD channels), a DVB-S card (used for EPG, and for freeview channels if DVB-T is busy), and an analog card (connected to a STB for Sky TVNZ - non free to air) in the machine.

When changing channels on the analog card it always played from the start of the timeshift buffer again. When chaning channels also changed cards (DVB-T channel to analog channel etc) it was OK, when changing channels within the DVB-T card it was OK as well. It was just changing channels within the analog card. It happened every time, didn't matter which channel, as long as source and dest channel are both on the analog card.

The DVB-S card is mainly just used for EPG (as the dual DVB-T is usually available but not used for EPG), but was 2nd priority (before analog, after DVB-T) just in case I record three channels at once... EPG while timeshifting is not on (it is only while idle).

Anyway, given the commetns about EPG, I moved the DVB-S in priority behind the analog card, and the analog card does not go back to start of timeshift buffer anymore. It is repeatable. I've restored the original priority and seen it come back, then reversed it and fixed it again...

Hi there,
just want to add an observation, had the same problem but it just became more random when I unticked the EPG Grabber during live TV.

Because I had some strange behavior with the channel mapping and channel scanning, I suspected a bad TV card binding (or what it is called). Tested to increase the waiting time for the TV Server before attempting to connect to the TV card, and now (cross my fingers) the problem has not re-occured (yet).
Not deadsure if this is a fix, but it is easy to try anyway...

Hi I just wanted to share my findings:

I did not have this prob until I installed VC++ Redist 2008 x86 (which was installed by a special USB driver ) and also the driver for PS3-Eye Camera .
This also led to different problems, like MP crashing on resume.

Uninstalling VC2008 and the driver, and everythings working fine again.

just in case someone has the same prob...

just came across this problem after a re-image and possible movement of dual tuner usb stick over to another port.
investigated the epg issues as listed above then changed the priority of the 2 devices, restarted tv server and hey presto working like a charm

Do you have timishifting EPG grabbing enabled? Some user reported that it was the reason for such behavior / bug.

I beg your pardon, but where do I disable 'EPG grabbing while timeshifting'?

I am having this problem, but with an initial install! I don't suppose it is a default setting..?

well, it could be if I am remembering it right.


In the TV server config you go to Genral settings->EPG Tab... there you should see it...

But I think I have solved this problem of mine...

I have been installing and re-installing MP, and messed about with codecs and have not found a solution until now. It doesn't matter which codec I use, if I install MP with MySQL this timeshifting bug occurs when changing channels (which are also slow to change). But if I install MP with Microsoft's SQL server, this bug does not occur!

Great, the problem is gone. But now I am having an aspect ratio problem... and this is 4:3 are stretched. I have had a few attempts at changing codecs but with no luck. I will certainly have a few more go, but the recommended codec is ffdshow and this does not seem to fix the aspect ratio problem...
