When watching LiveTV, shouldn't you be able to key in the channel number you want to watch and have it change?

If for example I'm watching channel 1 and want channel 32, I would expect to key 32 on the remote and have the channel change. It doesn't, it simply brings up some on screen display showing channel 3.

Instead, I'm having to scroll through the channels or go to the guide.

To force it to change channels, you can go into MP configuration - Television and check "select channel number by index". This will make it work, but depending on your channels, it may not work correctly. This setting will select channels via the index. i.e. If you type 32, you will change to the 32nd channel in the index, not channel 32. This is fine if you don't have any gaps in your channels. You can put a bunch of dummy channels into your channel line up so that the index and line up match. Finally, you can post in this bug report that I made and confirm that it doesn't work for you.

pugulike, what remote are you using? I have a floppyDTV and the numbers don't work out of the box for changing chanels. You have to change the config of the remote not to use the actions REMOTE_0 -> REMOTE_9 to use the keys 0 -> 9 then it works.

Channel changing through the remote works only for me when watching TV full screen.

If you uncheck "select channel number by index" on the setup, it should work as you desire. It was added primarily for US users where channel 32 isn't necessarily the 32nd channel in the channel list. It will quite possibly only work from fullscreen TV, but I'm not sure because I never am on MyTv except to select recordings to watch.

I change channels this way every day with that option unchecked.

ok on UK DTT... for example Sky News is channel 82.

however in MP it's not the 82nd channel in the list (we have quite a few gaps left for new channels to fit in to the EPG)

i have tried the "select channel number by index" both ticked and unticke.... and neither allow me to choose 82 using the keypad.

any ideas ??

Let me reiterate that MP will not change channels by channel number if you are using an external settop box. I don't think I stated the stb condition in my original post, but I looked at pugulike's previous posts and it's obvious that he's using one.

If you look at my bug report, I show the pertinent lines of code and it just doesn't work. Basically, MP attempts to find the channel number, but for an stb, channel numbers are all set at 25000(1,2,3).

If you check "by index", it will change chennels by the number in the index. If you uncheck it, it will fail.

chenks,

Are the channels numbered correctly in the channel list? Does it change channels at all?

if if key in 32 on the keypad... it loads the 32nd channel on the list... which isn't necessarily channel 32 (as in the LCN)

for example the news channels on UK DVB-T start at channel 80... but there aren't 80 channels.

i have to key in 41 for example to get the BBC News.. even though it's proper channel number is 80.
