Channels / TV-Card NOT Found (1 Viewer)

I have been running WMC on tihs PC for several years.

CURRENT-WMC-SETUP:

I know that I'm not getting an HD signal to my TV. I'm more interested in the PVR function, than High Definition TV.

When I installed MediaPortal (MP) (in Client-Server) Mode,
the Channel Scans in Server-Config are BLANK (Except for ~3 Channel(3) entries on the Analog Card Entry.
I was expecting to get ONE Ch-4 Entry, since my STB is only sending out that ONE Channel.


When I installed MP in Stand-Alone Mode,
the TV-Card does not seem to be recognized.

And So ... to the questions ... What am I doing wrong?

It looks like my Win-Media-Center Application is Locking-Up my TV Card.
I can't seem to find any way of disabling the WMC Application, so that I can be sure it's not interfeering.
(Maybe I just have to Cancel ALL my Scheduled Recordings?)

Is my TV Card [Asus/ViXS Combo-210E NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner] sufficient ?
I was looking at a Hauppauge [WinTV-HVR 1600]. Would that solve my problem?

That is quite a setup!

Sometimes STBs modulate the signal onto a VHF-L, VHF-H and UHF channel. In any case, did one or all of the channels work?

When I installed MP in Stand-Alone Mode, the TV-Card does not seem to be recognized.

Meaning it is not listed in TV Server configuration, or something else? If my guess was correct did you try restarting the PC?

Certainly it is true that only one application can control the hardware at any given time. If MC is occasionally doing recordings or attempting to use the digital tuner to grab EPG then it will really mess MP up. As far as I'm aware you can disable the MC services in the "additional 3rd party checks" section of MediaPortal configuration. Note: I'd expect that to prevent your MC scheduled recordings from occurring.

That kinda seems like a bit of an open question. If you're asking whether the tuner is compatible with TV Server then I don't know for certain, but chances are that if it has BDA drivers then the answer will be yes. A tuner that works in WMC has BDA drivers, therefore it should work in MP.

The HVR-1600 certainly works in MP, but I would give your current tuner a chance first. To be honest I don't clearly understand what you're saying the primary problem is at this point. Some TV Server logs would *really* be helpful. If you could:

1. Open TV Server configuration.
2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
3. Zip up the files you find there and post them here.

Thanks for the reply (mm).

I was trying to install from a Vista User-Profile,
so I thought it best if I do a Complee UnInstall, and start over from an Admin-Profile.
This time I selected a Quick Install from the MP-Deploy-Tool.

I had a look at the MP-Log-Dir files. (See Attached)
It seems there was an Error while adding a ( BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter ).
So ... Question ... Is there a solution for this?

Note: I'm already writing this thread, so I wiil send it;
but please know that I will start searching the Forums to find out about ( BDA MPEG2 Transport Info Filter ) Errors.

Hi again John

The "unable to add BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter filter" error that you have noticed can be ignored. It was generated when you tried the ATSC scan. I think most ATSC/QAM tuners seem to generate that "error" but as far as I'm aware it doesn't actually have any effect.

I think I understand what you're saying now. When you try to do an TV scan with the analog tuner everything just locks up, right? Nothing happens even if you leave TV Server for ages.

I've seen that problem before with a very similar Vixs tuners:

Unfortunately I never found a solution. There seems to be some sort of compatibility issue with the tuner. Could be that the tuner would work fine with different drivers; I'm just not sure.

There is one thing you can try: you can create the channel manually and see if it works.
1. Open TV Server configuration.
2. Go to the TV Channels section.
3. Click add.
4. Enter any name up the top, then click add again.
5. Select analog and click OK.
6. Enter the following details:
- channel = 4
- frequency = 0 (default)
- input type = cable
- country = (your country)
- VCR signal = untick
- video source = tuner
- audio source = automatic/tuner

7. Click OK and OK again to save.

So once you've created that channel you should be able to test it and see whether it works.
