Choosing default waveout device doesn´t work (1 Viewer)

Choosing "Default waveout device" under my films in settings. When playing a AVI movie, filtergraph is showing "Default directsound device" instead as renderer. This is also the case when playing a DVD or watching TV.

I need MP to use "waveout device" to get AC3 sound using passthrough to work. Using waveout is the only way I can get it to work. I have tested various methods the past days, including different codecs and so on. With waveout I can get it to work with many different codecs (Nvidia, Cyberlink, ffdshow etc).

When I do "Render media file" in Filtergraph, the default graph always gets "direct sound device". I can then alter the graph and add the waveout device filter instead, and AC3 passthrough works fine.

Im not at all convinced this problem origins from MP. But someone can perhaps point me in the right direction here? How do I get the option "default waveout device" to stick?

you can always use AC3-Filter1.01RC5 in combination with MPA. Just set it to WaveOut and you'll experience a working pass-through again

I found another "solution" which alters the registry to "force" waveout to be used, instead of directsound. Even if I don't like to make changes to the registry, as that often results in some other unwanted behaviour, I tried it and it works.

I haven't tested much yet, but I suspect this "fix" will affect all applications which uses audio on my puter. Therefore I think the AC3filter is a better solution.

Does anyone know if it is possible to go AC3 passthrough in directsound? Maybe with some other sound card this will work? My card is a bit outdated.

It would also be nice to have the ability to choose directsound or waveout from MP. Why doesn’t that work? Have I done something stupid (most likely), or is something “infected†in MP?

I solved the problem with the ability to choose direct sound and wave out renderer. I "stole" the registry settings (that was changed by the fix mentioned earlier) from my other PC that also runs XP pro. No it's no problem switching between direct sound and wave out.

I still can't get any AC3 pass through with direct sound though. Has anyone made this work?
