Client on windows 7 stutters (1 Viewer)

I am using the 1.1 Alpha server and client both running on windows 7 machines. I have tried to get the client to run smooth but whenever I watch TV it jumps and stutters on live TV, no matter if it is HD channel or not. I had the setup on a XP server and a different PC as the server I could watch the non HD channels fine on the client but the HD were skipping from the Server PC having specs to low so I upgraded.

I have not been able to get any channel to run smooth on the client since. Everythign else works, music, Video playback (AVI) over the network but not TV.

The tv does run a lot smoother if I tick the box in the client for "don't drop discontinued packets" option. only when this is ticked the TV seems to show at normal speed but there is like breakup or interference in the picture itself as if I was watching a DVD that was dirty or scratched.

Any help would be great.

Hello,

Why not upgrade to 1.1.0 Beta and see if that helps?
The 1.1.0 Alpha was not intended for production enviroment since it contained a lot of bugs (some which has been resolved in the Beta release). Ofcourse, the Beta are not intended for production enviroment either, but I would still suggest you use the latest available release.

I am running latest SVN snapshot and I also have some problems with studdering Live TV from time to time (on the client). I sure hope it will be gone when it's time for the official release of 1.1.0.

Probably a signal or network issue. Please

    1) update to 1.1.0 beta and latest SVN (lot of errors have been fixed... althou it still is not recommended to be used with main HTPCs as it is just a beta)
    2) post all logs

Ok Thanks will upgrade and post logs, Should I get logs from only the server, client or both?

EDIT: Ok now have the logs I have upgraded both the Mediaportal Server and TV and also the Client PC to the MediaPortal 1.1.0 BETA-1_rev23491, still having same issues. I have included logs from the client PC while the problem was occurring and the logs form the TV server.

I am attaching myself to this thread, as i am experiencing the same problems. Also, checking "don't drop discontinued packets" did reduce the problem slightly, but far from complete. Additionally, i have a "jumpy" TV image, i.e. every seconds the complete picture goes 1 or 2 pixels up and 1 or 2 down... I have attached my log file!

I am using Win 7 Professional x64 with Mediaportal 1.1.0.0 Beta + latest SVN Build.

Edit: One thing, i was surprised, was the German Channel (called Sat.1), which broadcasted a high-quality-signal (no HD, but still a very good (i think) PAL signal). There i did not encounter the jumpy image. Still, there was some very slight stuttering.

TsReader log shows lot of discontinuity errors. That can be sourcing from a bad antenna signal or if you are using wireless network between the server and client.

    29-10-2009 12:22:45.143 [b30]Video Continuity error... 2 ( prev b )
    29-10-2009 12:22:45.183 [b30]Video Continuity error... a ( prev 4 )
    29-10-2009 12:22:45.183 [b30]Audio Continuity error... d ( prev b )

Please do a following test so we can see if it is the signal or the network.

    1) record some 10 to 15 minute clip from tv
    2) copy that recording to the client hard disk
    3) use my videos plugin to playback that recorded .ts file

If you still see the same behavior the issue is in signal. If not then it is the network between client and server. It could be some other issue as well, but 95% of the times it is the signal when you are getting dropped transport stream packets on TsReader side.

EVR renderer seems to drop a lot of frames (no clear reason is seen in the logs).

Please test if disabling the I.F.C. plugin solves the issue.

Thanks heaps for getting back to me. The 2 Pc's are connected via LAN (cat 5 cable) through a 4 port (LAN) & WIFI router, I have always thought there may be an issue with Win7 and its networking. It is the same router / cable that the XP seem to work fine on.

With the signal idea, does the signal strength drop being repeated? I know it does with normal RF but is it being exposed to the same loos by being repeated over a LAN setup? The reception on the server is fine, and apart from the stuttering The picture on the client PC is great when the frames do land.

I will try the suggested tests and get back again. Thanks again
