Codecs for H.264 TV ? (1 Viewer)

Please read my post before replying.

I don't want any codec packs or anything, I just want to know why there is so many problems with many H.264 codecs and Live/recorded TV in Mediaportal and what choices we really have in the future.

It is complicated, but they simply didnt support TV streams.

Actually it is not the TV streams, but the way TsReader sends the video data to the decoder (and multiple other demultiplexers as well that are imcompatible with MPC-HC decoder).

I did post into doom9.org forum for MPC-HC developers a question about the compatibility issues (maybe montha go) but I haven't heard anything back from them. So I would assume that they simple arent either interested in supporting extra demultiplexers (haali & MPC-HC internal are compatible) or they haven't seen the message.

I just use the Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 codec for H.264 television and video feeds... Sorry must be a little confused.

So you could maybe summarise the situation for H.264 codecs with DXVA support usable in MP for TV as:

1. There is no open-source/free codec.

2. The best (only ?) commercial codec is Cyberlink PDVD7, PDVD8(before Build 2521) or PDVD9(before Build 1501).

3. Everything else either doesn't work at all, has problems or is actively blocked by MP.

Yes, PDVD stuff looks like good option.

I have found the best overall combination of codecs to be pdvd 8 both for SD and HD channels but with ffdshow tryouts beta 6 as audio codec. This is the most stable setup for me.

The link I provided above has the H.264 codec in it, you don't need to install the whole pack, just the one codec... That link has been available for two years now, constantly getting updated... I'm sure it's okay..

Powercinema 6 codec works well with DXVA for me in Mediaportal.

Well, i just tryed MP 1.1 alpha and MP TS reader connect to MPC-HC and play my test h.264 TS file. There are bugs in pictures, but graph is finaly created correctly (no MPEG2 decoder inserted between MPC-HC and renderer).
So maybe little tweak of TS reader can filnaly fix compatibility? Or am i wrong?

Most likely still lot of work to do (which is not planned).
