Tools and other software Commandline control of MediaPortal (1 Viewer)

Is there a way to easily and nicely control MediaPortal from the command line?

I have set up an SSH server, and can control MediaPortal via SendMessage (I came across Eventghost looking for answers, it looks like it uses SendMessage as well)

While this is basic workable solution, is there anyway to more simply and powerfully control Mediaportal from a CLI? Rather than a set of simulated remote commands, I was thinking there might be a way to do more high level commands eg:
Turn on the TV to channel 4 in full screen
Play a certain video file
Show the weather
Play certain music files / playlists (Search and play music?)

Have you tried the Wi-Fi remote plugin? That should do the job.

I had thought Wifi remote was just able to simulate remote key presses as well, but looking through the API it looks like it can do a lot more high level stuff. I am not a programmer tho, how can I send JSON stuff to the plugin from a command line over ssh, is there an easy way?
