Compress to XVID (1 Viewer)

I have the following installed and can compress to XVID without a problem.

Moonlight Elecard MPEG Decoder Pack v2.1.4316

Is that all you need to have installed? IE: Do you still need ffdshow (or anything else) installed?

The current Elecard Decoder Pack available for sale is version 3.0, do you know if that version will work as yours does?

I have ffdshow installed however I don't believe it is necessary to compress.

I do not know if version 3 will work, sorry.

Even on high I get ~150MB files of 30 Min DVB stream therefore the quality is "portable" at best..

Is there a way to increase the parameters of the presets?

I think the parameters are hard-coded, i seem to remember that its 768kbit/s. How much would you like it to be?

768kbit/s gives okay quality for most things, at least when i viewed them on an 28" CRT

I think there may be more to it than just the bitrate. When I compress a file to WMV using MP it changes the resolution from 720 X 576 to around 320 X 250. I know the resolutions I am quoting are not exact (but they will be reasonably close), I am running from memory here.

I think that just by reducing the resolution like that will give you a file that is around 1/4 the size of the original, then add in the compression and you get really small files with really bad quality.

When I play WMV files that have been converted by MP they are virtually unwatchable due to the graininess of the image, which I assume is caused by the reduced resolution.

Ok I think I've gotten a little way I've found an old version of the Elecard decoder yay. But either I've got the fastest kray supercomputer encoding 58min in 5 seconds or the fact that MP reports it completes and only transcodes the first 1-4 seconds of video is the next issue. Can anyone see an obvious codec issue in this log? Everything seems fine it starts transcoding then fisishes after a few seconds. The video created is actually viewable but only 2 seconds long. I'll find my other post and put the link to the old 2.0.0.2510 elecard decoder once I find it. The zip file in other links has been updated so it's not actually that codec so I searched high and low to find the old version. I posted a link in the MPEG 2 codec guide earlier.
