Well, I'm totally at my wit's end trying to make compression work.. First of all, I should preface this by noting that mediaportal totally rules, hands down!
My issue is that I've got a hard drive full of stuff I don't want to delete, yet I can't compress. What's odd is that I *used* to be able to compress to wmv without problem. Now, I can still "compress" to mpeg2, but that's it. I have a full version of PowerDVD installed on my system, and can play DVDs and mpeg2's just fine. But when I try to open up a dvr-ms file, windows media player crashes. When I try to open the dvr-ms files in anything, it doesn't work. Yet they play just fine* in media portal. I've searched the FAQ and the forums, and can see that people have had problems. I've tried to make sure it's set up right. I do have a few codecs installed, possibly too many, and I've tried to set the default decoder via DECCHECK, but to no avail. My system is:
p4 / 2g ram / pvr-150 / etc
XP home, sp2
MP 0.2
DX 9.0c
WMP 10.0
any help figuring this out would be greatly, greatly appreciated....
* one other weird thing - possibly related, possibly not - when I'm in mediaportal and play back a recorded show, it sometimes will work, sometimes not. It almost always works the first time after starting MP, but then trying to watch any other show (or re-watch that same one) won't work.
