Can someone please list in order the drivers, ect to get my Dell Inspiron 5100 Windows XP Home Edition SP3 to recognize my New Microsoft Media Center PC RemoteComtrol and Receiver model #1039.

I have spent hour and hours downloading and installing stuff and I still cannot get even the volume on the TV to change.

That got the remote to work, YES!!!!!!!!:D

Is there a post on how to program the key's of this remote control (Microsoft Media Center PC Remote Control and Receiver model #1039) with what works best to operate MediaPortal from it?

Why is, Remotes >>Tip and Tricks (at least it seems like it is) hidden?
MediaPortal Forum » MediaPortal 1 » Main Features (talk, share your ideas, get support) » Input / Output interfaces » Remotes » Tips and Tricks

I just typed remote in the search field and it just went to some posts.
Is there a way to get directly to these sub-forums where we (non-geek/newbees) actually need to be.
Someplace to type (remote) or whatever and be taken directly to the sub-forum?
Seems like this could help you out tremendously before questions are asked. I didn't realize how many layers there are in the forums.
A quick link dialog box on the front page would help, just a thought.

:D

You are thinking of adding a search box to the (Quick Links, down arrow) to get to these sub-forums?

Why not just use the open subscribed threads to look for updates to questions you have asked.

Glad you got the remote working.

    1. Is the Newcomers Forum a Subscribed Thread?
    2. I have seen so many posts in the last 2-3 weeks that have never been answered, probably because you are tired of answering the same questions over and over. Just leaving these people hanging is sad. The remote control I just got working is yes, simple to do, once you figure it out.

My remote came with no instructions and neither does MediaPortal on how to Activate the Buttons.
But all I had to do was to:
    1. Start MediaPortal Configure.
    2. Click on (remote) in the left side of the screen.
    3. Put a (Check Mark) in the box next to (use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard).
    4. Click on (Mapping).
    5. Click the (+) sign next to (Microsoft MCE remote).
    6. Click one at a time on each of the (+) signs and (Activate) the actions I wanted the remote to do and hit (Apply).
    7. Click ok.
    8. Click ok.
    9. Start MediaPortal and try out the remote control.

I can even change what I want the Buttons to do, by using the (Drop Down Arrow) in the (Action) Preferences Area to pick a New Command then Click Apply, then ok.

I have never activated a Remote Control before and I have been all over web looking for help, but I found nothing on what I just outlined above. It does not make any sense for MediaPortal not to have these kinds of directions.

So I guess what I am trying to say is, I'm tired of spending hours and hour on the web trying to find simple answers for question like (how do I activate my remote control?) and finding out it only takes the Nine Processes above in MediaPortal to get it to work.
I am not mad; it just doesn’t make sense not to have the remote control help when people still keep posting for remote control help.
So a Quick Link to the Important Hardware like the Remote Control would be helpful.
But like you said, you are in the process of re-doing the Documentation and I am sure it will be Good. I DO like this now that I have it up and running.
    :D
