I had a problem previously where after a show was recorded, and ComSkip was launched, this sequence would cause the tv-server to stop and no comskip.

I posted about the problem but nothing was resolved. One day after a serve reboot everything was fine.

Well, the server has to be rebooted every now and then for software updates and such, and about a month ago ComSkip started killing the tv-server service again.

I've been running without automatic ComSkip ever since.

It's annoying as hell to have to remember to launch tv-server, enable comskip, then go find the recorded program and click TEST, which always works fine.

It's annoying enough that I'm considering dropping Media Portal.

What information can I provide that would help somebody discover what the issue is?

If your running ComSkip while recording try running it after the recording is finished, I know i had all kinds of problems (like the TV Server freezing) when i tried running while recording but it works fine for me running after recording.

Last night I tried to fiddle with Show Anaylzer as I had purchased that a while ago for use with other software. It's old and doesn't look like it's supported anymore. So today I figured I would tinker with the ComSkip problem some more.

    I have gone here:

    http://www.kaashoek.com/files/

and downloaded some of the later zip files.

*80_042.zip was what I was using.

So I installed *80_041.zip, recorded a 30 minute show. Nothing happened. No comskip launch so the TV Server process didn't die.

Not remembering if I restarted the TV Service or not, I decided to go ahead and try

*80_041.zip. This time I for sure stopped and restarted the TV-Service.

Then I picked at random a short 30 minute tv program. Sure enough, the logs show it launches comskip and then nothing else appears in the log until I load up the TV-SERVER program, at which time it says the tv-server service isn't running.

I've attached the lot segment from the beginning of the recording right up to the launch to comskip.

I will continue to pick 30 minute shows and keep trying different versions of comskip until this works.

I guess if it doesn't, I will be forced to manually run comskip every time a show records, which is silly when this should be a very basic feature of any PVR software.

What about using DirMon to launch comskip instead of auto firing it through the tv-server config? Would that work?

What happens if you get the finished recording and drop it onto comskip.exe

Would also be interest in cpu use, so can you have taskmanager open and check the comskip.exe

    It works perfectly.

I can manually call it up from the command line or select a recorded tv show and use the TEST button, and it works. Everytime.

Right now I've disabled comskip launcher, stopped and restarted tv-server, and I'm trying ComSkip Monitor from SageTV

    http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=138

I have a recording scheduled to start in 6 minutes and it's a 30 minute show. We'll see what happens.

I noticed I had to install Java for the above. Is Java required with MePo?

    No java.

So that eliminates the file, are you running comskip with recording or post (which I think you are), does it crash if using comskip live.

I have never set it to run at the start but I will do that now and we'll see what happens in an hour.

Needless to say the SageTV ComskipMonitor did nothing.

When triggering comskip to start at the beginning of a recordings same problem. As soon as it launches ComSkip the tv-service stops and so does anything tv related.

Also if I literally open up two windows and "drop" a recorded show onto comskip I get the old "this program cannot be validated" or whatever the message is, and "Are you sure you want to run this?" to which I click YES and then everything runs fine.
