I'm new to Media Portal. Trying to get things up and running as I can't wait to get this all fired up. I installed tvserver, MP and the mp-tv client When tried to start the Mediaportal Setup wizard it crashed out given me the "Configuration.exe has cause an error" I followed a piece of advice I found in a older post saying to rename the mediaportal xml file and trying to run configuration.exe. When I did that it did start and allow me to change some settings but when I got to the part where it wanted to scan the HD for media files, the program crashed out. given me a message saying"Failed to locate assembly 'Bass.Net', Version=2.3.0.9, Culture=nuetral, PublicKeyToken=b7566c273e6ef480'. Note that the configuration program must be executed/reside in the MediaPortal folder, the execution will now end."

I've searched through the forum for the past day or so and haven't really come up with anything on this. Unless I grossly overlooked it. Any help anyoen can give me would be apprecitated. Thanks in advance.

Tanks for the advice. I went back and did a clean install of Tvserver 3, MP, and the MP tvserver CLient. And when I go to run the Media Portal Setup program it crashes giving me a Unhandled Exception error message Saying "The type initializer for 'MediaPortal GUI.Library.GUIGraphicsContext' threw an exception."

Any ideas?

I only use the stable version 0.2.2.0. I have no need to update to the latest SVN, as this can only lead to problems.

Maybe you should try using only the stable version.

If you do another uninstall, make sure that you delete the entire MP folder after the uninstall. There are usually some files left over that the uninstaller can't remove.

Thanks again. I tried another clean install and just installed Media Portal 0.2.2.0 And I still get the same problem when running MediaPortal Setup program. I get to step 4 and it gives me the GUI error message. If I try top run Mediaportal itself I get an error message saying "MediaPortal has encountered an error and will close".

I'm still trying to plug away at this though.

I think that you are confusing the setup Wizard with the MediaPortal Setup program.

The first time that you run the MediaPortal Setup program, the setup Wizard will start. Don't make any changes with the wizard. Just skip through it until it ends. Then restart the MediaPortal Setup program, now you should get the actual setup window. Add your TV card here, and scan for channels.

Thanks that works somewhat. I still get the 'MediaPortal GUI.Library.GUIGraphicsContext' error message when I get to the 4th page of the setup anytime I run it. But I can click the continue button and after a series of plug-in error messages the Media Portal Setup finishes. But no matter what MediaPortal crashes out with an inconvenience error.

Is your system completely updated with all available updates. I mean that you should go to the Windows Update web site and select Custom. Install everything that it says you can. Do this several times, as there are updates for the updates.

I recently had to reinstall DirectX. MP uses this a lot. so it's important.

Thanks Paul. My Direct X installation was corrupted. I reinstalled it and things are up and running. I love Media Portal so far I think my mythtv box has just seen it's demise.:D
