I wanted to update to MediaPortal RC2. Once installed I tried to run the configuration tool. But it never started, every time i try to start it it crashes. I can see the splashscreen shortly and then I get a windows error popup saying configuration.exe stopped running. This is the exact error text:

Code:

I tried the following already:

1. uninstalled everything of MediaPortal. After that deleted folders and registry keys of MP. Reinstall RC2.
2. step 1 and uninstalled SQLServer. Then reinstalled RC2.
3. step 2. Then reinstalled RC2 using MySQL instead of SQLServer

All these steps resulted in the same crash. Any suggestions?

I'm running as a user with Administrator rights. Is that not good?

I'm not the best person to answer this, as i always had problems of one description or another with the normal admin account on Vista, and despite spending 3 days trying to get things to work correctly, went back to using the Full admin account

    :sorry:

Just tried that, but unfortunately I've got the same result. Still not working. Any other suggestions?

By the way, the reason it cannot find the mediaportal.xml is that it's the first run after installation. I believe this is default behaviour. It cannot find the file, so it starts the configuration.

The configuration.log however shows something different: DirectInput: not enabled

I think that might be what's causing my problem, but I cannot find a way to solve it...

    Hi,
Please run Filmerit(see sign in PD's post) & check if any of your codecs it's corrupted, else do you run with UAC enabled.
Btw, vista admin it's not fully admin if you haven't done that in policy...

    Regards

    Same

I got exactly the same problem with my XP so it is no Vista Problem in my case.
The interesting part though is, that is always crashes when it is about to start the "adding the music section".

I just found out that it failed to start because i did a spyware scan and deleted that casino spyware file. whatever. After a new installation it worked fine but i had to deactivate my spyware scan because every time it checks it delets it automatically and media portal config crashes then.

Does the RC2 come with trojans? I dont know whats wrong with this release. :(

I checked it again. Its the files:

    Program Files/Team MediaPortal/MediaPortal/bass.dll
    All Users/Local/Temp/bassmod.dll

which get identified as Trojans and deleted
After that Media Portal Configuration is not able to start again.

Well, at least thats the problem on my pc so far.
