Howdy All,

I've read some post about this here and at AVS, but I'm confused.
I have a Yamaha RX-V861 which will decode DTS and DD, but not the newer DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.

My question/confusion is:

1) Can my setup decode DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD and send the LPCM to my receiver?
2) What is the best way for me to setup my audio output? Should I have the software decode everything and send it LPCM? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks,
Brewtal

1: yes, it can.. Via hdmi and passthrough of hd sound.
2: Buy a new receiver that support hd and hdmi.

    Hi Brewtal!

Is there any reason why you want a LPCM stream send to your receiver? It makes no sense for me to demux a DTS/DD stream to LPCM, just leave it as is. Additionally in LPCM you have ONLY 8 channels with 48kHz and 16 bits max. transfer rate. DTS streams have more than this!

Regarding HD: just use ffdshow-tryouts to recalc DTS-HD and DD-HD to simple DTS and DD streams. These simple streams you can also send directyl to your receiver, voilla! EDIT: should work with HDMI and SPDIF!

    Greets!

Your best bet is to simply output everything as Multichannel LPCM..
so let the latest FFDshow do the work...then send it as above to your Receiver.
So just leave all audio types unticked...under the Pass-through section
under Output section..in Audio FFDshow setup.

Just so you know ..more than 80% of Blu-ray soundtracks
are 48KHz and 16 bit audio anyway.
Most people unless they have a high end speaker set-up worth thousands wont be able
to tell the difference in the quality.
So unless you want to go spending more money on a new Receiver...
to be able to see the little Dolby True HD etc light up..try the above.
