Continuity error (1 Viewer)

I have built a HTPC, a couple of years ago,. It has a Hauppauge Nova 500 Satellite tuner card installed in a PCI expansion slot that works fine. I used to have a DVB-T tuner card installed on the PCI-E expansion slot but recently it started to play up a bit. I decided to buy the new dual Blackgold DVB-T2 DVB-S2 tuner card and plugged in the terrestriual cable but the picture quality was just as bad. I thought it was the aerial or booster that was at fault. I decided to have this checked out and, going the whole hog, have a second cable from a spare LNB on the satellite.

Well, guess what, the picture quality through the Blackgold satellite was poor as well. I therefore have to conclude that it is probably the PCI-E expansion slot that is at fault. The problem is, I don't know what to do about it. Is there a way to test that the slot is working ok or that the Blackgold tuner card is really at fault?

The aerial man checked the signals and all appear ok. I have installed the latest driver for the BlackGold. I notice from the logs that there are a huge number of Continuity Errors.

Any suggestions would be grately appreciated.

I attach some logs that might help.

Hi Mike,

I'm very new to Mediaportal, but I had a similar problem with continuity errors and poor quality image. After much reading , I discovered the server should have a separate drive for recorded TV and no "green" drives. When I reconfigured my server by removing the single "green" and placing two 7200 rpm drives, and my image issues and continuity errors disappeared.

The green drive I used was a Seagate Barracuda LP 1.5TB.

Everything is working now with 4 HDhomeruns and 2 Colossus. ( knock on wood.)

Good call. I'll try that tonight. I used to use a separate drive for recorded programmes and for time shifting. When I re-installed MP I changed the time shifting to the C: drive although the main recordings are still on a separate drive. I'll change it back and see how that goes.

Nope! still getting continuity errors. The pictures using the tuner on the PCI-E slot are diabolical! It has to be either the card or the slot but I don't know where to go from here!

There is some recent chatter on avforums regarding Blackgold T2 problem with Windows Media Center. A firmware update by the manufacturer could be required. Maybe try setting up Media Center and see if the image problem persists. This would rule out Mediaportal as the problem. Cheers, good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'm confident it is not MediaPortal. I will widen my search for any problems with BlackGold T2 although my hunch says it is the PCI-E slot. In a way I hope it is the slot as the best tuner card I ever has was a second hand Blackgold. Shame it won't fit any more.
