Unfortunately I don't think GK or Auto GK are being developed anymore, so I'd say those tools will stick with avi's.I think I might try out the ffdshow approach and use it to manipulate the subs..... it seems that sub handling through MP itself is a bit of black magic (although changing to mkv's certainly fixed 90% of my problem, which was being able to at least turn them on or off), and mapping the remote key to the ffdshow control for subs seems a logical alternative.</blockquote>
