Converting h264 to DVD (1 Viewer)

Raw TS dumps -> remux to x264 according scene standards. You find presets on the net for most software.
Once done I recommend as well running them through mkvtoolnix again for potential container issues.

Use the video converter of your choice. Meaning the one you feel most comfortable with and that leverages your CPU/GPU at best.

Tried mkvmerge, keeps crapping out, coming up with "Error: memory.cpp/safememdup() called from file src/output/p_aac.cpp, line 76: malloc() returned nullptr for a size of 4294967288 bytes." and stops. Seems to crap out at the same size (give or take a few bytes)

It doesn't like the aac audio on NZ freeview. If you deselect any aac channels leaving only ac3 it should work.

If you want to trim the video you can try Avidemux 2.6 (use 32 bit version as it doesn't crash on exit), it is free and open source. Select ts or mkv as output format and deselect the aac tracks in the audio menu. Copying the streams only takes a few minutes. It only cuts on keyframes so use the slider to find where you want to cut and the up and down keys to jump to the nearest keyframe. It doesn't work with subtitles.

If you want all the audio tracks and subtitles TS Doctor and Videoredo are the way to go but a bit expensive and seem sluggish whilst editing on my processor compared to avidemux.

As for re-encoding, I gave up after one file, waiting hours for it to finish and then finding the audio is all messed up is not worth the effort. Have stuck to copying the streams in various software ever since. I trimmed 100gig from files over the course of a couple weeks, 2 or 3 files a day, so it really can save space.
