Today the new CoreAVC HD Codec was released!

The previous 1.x codec has always been one of the best choices for HD content for me, but always had a few issues with MP.

With the plethora of changes, additions, and fixes to the new CoreAVC 2.0, here is hoping MP finally can enjoy the full benefits of this awesome decoder.

Has anyone happened to try it out yet?

I haven't tried it yet, but would also be interested to know what experiences people have had with HDTV. Anyone?

I bought and installed it yesterday - it works same as 1.9.5, absolutelly no difference (generally HDTV works but is not as smooth as it should be. One my HDTV channel (fortunatelly the less important) is running in 30fps instead of 50fps, even processor utilization is not higher then 70%). Well, I have to say I am little bit disappointed...

    Odd...

1.9.5 works extremely fast and smooth for me, I just have issues with audio sync in EVR and frame freezing durring channel change in VR9.

Try turning hardware acceleration off, on a couple of my machines I got better results (ones without Cuda or an ATI card)

So your relying one the processor for decoding where as I have a Geforce card that is capable of CUDA so the CoreCodec could do hardware acceleration.

Are you using the latest beta + SVN of mediaportal? Also are you using Win7 or Vista?

I never encountered any problem with audio sync nor freezing during channel change with 1.9.5. My problem (well it is not really problem, it is inconvenience) is that most HDTV channels are slightly less smooth when using core avc then when using eg. cyberlink codec (which is totally unstable anyway). It is nicely visible on moving texts - using core avc the letters are slightly blurred, using DXVA accelerated codec the letters are absolutelly sharp.
Anyway I am not sure what you mean by hardware acceleration (I have ATI card). If you mean hardware deinterlacing, then this option must be set by my setup otherwise the picture is unwatchable...

    I'm running Vista SP2 + MP1.1.0 BETA + latest SVN + CoreAVC 2.0

Live HDTV is now working great, and swapping between SD and HD is also working great :D

Is there a visual quality difference between CoreAVC and MPC-HCs H.264 codec?

They both can use GPU hardware acceleration, so the 30% faster that their website claims doesn't really mean much to me, so I'm wondering if there is any difference in the visual quality that would make it worth the money to buy it.

The worst thing about CoreAVC with the previous versions was that problem of being unable to activate Cuda when the video starts in full screen (with MP or any other HTPC oriented software). If you click on the mkv file and it starts windowned in some player using the codec, you can see the green icon at the taskbar showing that Cuda is working, but if the video starts in full screen you get no Cuda working. Your CPU is alone decoding that video. For me, because of that bug, CoreAVC was being useless till now. This new version comes with the purpose to solve this problem and to do other improvements, but I'm really curious to know about that bug...

    AW: CoreAVC 2.0 released!

Wait for 1.1.0 RC it will include a new tsreader supporting NALU and hopefully then this is also fixed but perhaps one of the devs can tell something about this.
