Hey there

I am new to mediaportal and I really appreciate all the work you all have done so far to create this legendary piece of software :D

Everything (even the minidisplay plugin) worked without probs from the beginning. There is just one little problem that I wasn't able to solve yet.

I use an Asus Motherboard with an onboard GeForce 8300 GPU. So i bought a CoreAVC license as the 2 newest builds support CUDA for this type of GPU. CUDA works great with all players but not with MP1. I use the latest SVN. When I start MP in window mode and playback a HD or FullHD mkv movies I can see that the CoreAVC tray icon appears but its not turning green (what it should do when using CUDA) the CPU usage is between 25% and 45% percent but the main problem is that some of the movie become async.

When I use the MPC filters with DXVA everything works fine (and embedded and external subtitles will be avaiable soon I think) but I would anyway like to have CUDA runnging because I paid for it :D and the cpu usage is even a little lower.

I was wondering if it could be a problem with the splitter that MP uses. When I play the mkv with MPC (not homecinema) or WMP11 it uses haali media splitter and CUDA works fine. that means the tray icon turns green and the cpu usage is around 10% - 20% and everything is sync. even dvobsub is working fine with CUDA active. deinstalling dvobsub didn't change anything in MP and there are no other filters or codec packs installed.

thx in advance for your help and tips

well maybe 88keyz had the same issue and CUDA wasn't active at all when he made the screens :p hehe. Or maybe I don't have an eye for such things (yet) but the picture that I get on my TV with CUDA active looks great for me. The biggest advantage for me would be that I could use dvobsub for the subs without loosing hardware accel completly.

My GeForce 8300 is shared memory and the bios setting is default. So maybe the thing with the GPU memory could possibly be the point. I will try to set this value to the max and see what happens.

I am on military services atm so I will not have the chanse to test this before friday evening.

thx and greetz

I'm having a 8300 chipset aswell. CoreAVC 1.9.5 w/ CUDA is enabled in MP when I use it. Still having problems with it playing some 1080p files though so I'm back to DXVA instead.

I was using FFDSHOW latest beta build... and 1080p on MKV (H.264, AVC) was very bad, not fluid, crappy...

I installed CoreAVC 1.9.5 on my MP 1.0.0.0 (and Vista Ultimate SP1); I have Nvidia 9600GT 512MB, with latest drivers (to use CUDA u have to use drivers from 178.x or later). Now my full hd films go like a charms... good picture quality, non jumps, no drops, audio (DD or DTS) perfectly synced, subtitles, anc other... I didn't checked the color of the tray icon... so don't know if with MP I'm using CUDA or not... but surely CoreAVC is very better than FFDSHOW...

    Ciao

    Hi :D

I finally found the time to start some new tests. after I set the bios value for the shared Memory to the max (512MB) CUDA worked with MP1 but i still didn't get the results as I got with dxva support. some 1080p movies where still out of sync when dvobsub autoload was active.

what I did. I got the latest SVN. downloaded the mpc subtitle engine and configured the refresh rate changer to my needs. Et Voilà I finally I have the mediacenter of my dreams :). no (crossing fingers) sync issues or subtitles problems anymore and I am sure there are a lot of nice plugins and skins to explore which will improve the functionality.

    Mediaportal kicks ass :D

thx for your help. I think it's true. CUDA might really not be the best choice for MP1 atm especially when using subtitles on FullHD materials using onboard graphics with shared memory. I would bet that it works fine with an additional NVIDIA 8***
