Hi Guys,

I have ripped a dvd down to avi and extracted the subtitles into a .sub file. What is the correct way to setup moving pictures so that the subtitles are available to the movie? Do they all need to be in the same folder or what?

Could someone please explain this to me as this is the 1st time I have dealt with subtitles.

Many Thanks

Steven

Hi Iceman:

I'm not sure but I think MPplayer cannot read sub files.
I thinkj you have to convert them to srt.

I assume you are using internal MP player.

MediaPortal is DirectShow compliant, so you can always use subtitle support via a DirectShow codec that will deal with the subtitles for you.

Bitmap compatible solutions for that would be DirectVobSub for example. The Haali splitter for example has the option to always load the VSFilter.dll, but when you install DirectVobSub by itself it is also possible to force usage.

So SRT text-based subtitles or SUB/IDX bitmap-subtitles are no problem in MediaPortal, you can turn them both on/off, even select between multiple subtitles via the context menu. To make forced-subtitles work, say for example subtitles for the alien language part of Avatar, you need to use MKV container format or another compatible one. Standalone SRT files do not have the ability for this forced-flag, but the same SRT file inside MKV with the flag enabled works.
