Generally I'm very pleased with the plugin, it certainly make smy movie collection look really good.

For some reason scanning didn' tpick up any cover art, not even the folder.jpg found in each folder.. all my movies sit in their own folder. Is this by design or have I done something stupid..?

Also I was rather gutted when I had added my 200 nmovies to the collection (which sit on my network) and when the machine couldnt get to the network it deleted the whole lot, so I had to go through and set them all up again.. what's all that about? I assume if they're on a network th elocation should be marked as removable? Seems a little odd..

You need to mark import paths as removable if they are not always going to be available to the plug-in. Moving Pictures is designed to maintain your collection based on movies that are in your watch folders, and when a movie has been removed from the drive, it will automatically remove it from the database. If you have movies stored on a removable source like an external or network hard drive that is not always connected, you should mark that source as removable on the config screen to prevent movies from being removed from your collection when the media is unavailable. This is explained on the config screen though. Maybe the instructions are not clear though. I will see about clarifying things.

As for the cover art, the current version is not great at retrieving cover artwork. Because the previous data provider had completely gone down, 0.5.5 was rushed a bit. This unfortunately means the impawards scraper was not as polished as we would like. In the next release cover art retrieval will be much better.

I have another question about cover art thats somewhat unreleated to the OP, but figured Id ask here instead of starting another topic....

I may have missed it somewhere, but where does the new version (5.5c) pull cover art from? I thought I read it was re-tooled to pull from IMDB, but there are a handful of movies that arent getting covers that I know are up on IMDB. All the info for these movies pull down without issue. I know you just mentioned there's still a bunch of work to be done on the new implementation, but figured Id toss it out there in case I did miss something.

It is only movie details that are pulled from IMDB. Cover art is pulled from impawards.

One problem I have noticed is the year doesn't always match between the two sites...results in no cover art:confused:

Thanks for the clarification. Is it possible for users to submit cover art like movie-xml did? I looked around the site and I couldnt find any way to do so.

Yeah, that is taken care of in the new implementation, coming soon.

No, sorry impawards is not a community driven site. I am looking for community driven alternatives, hopefully we will have something in another month or two.

First thread that i found by searching "folder.jpg", so:

I have lots and lots of movies and i dont like the quality of the posters that come up with soem scrapers, so are folder.jpg, poster.jpg or something similiar files supported? so that i never have to insert posters by hand via the config ui when i reinstall my MP installation?

edit: i just reorganized my servers harddrives etc and now the links i currently have in my AMC data file dont point where they should, so im asking this as an option to change over from mes films to moving pictures :)

folder.jog support is already implemented in the code and will be available with the next release. It will also look in the thumbs folder, and any artwork that is there from previous installs of Moving Pictures will be given priority. Meaning that starting with the next release, if you spend a lot of time adding cover art manually, if you rebuild your database it will automatically pick up the old covers you loaded.

Again these two features will not be available until 0.5.6+.

That's really awesome news. I have a large number of movies, and they have all been indexed by MyMovies (which i use to serve them to a Vista media center machine elsewhere in my house).. as such they all have folder.jpg - will the new version pick this up automatically or should I go thru and allocate them manually?

Also - if I want to set up another machine with MovingPictures, do I simply take a copy of the database and copy it to the new machine to duplicate the view?

    Cheers!
