Need to update my system specs...

Windows 7 64bit edition
MediaPortal 1.2Beta
DefaultWide
4GB Ram Quad-Core
ATI 4250 Onboard GFX 512MB

Logs are attached...

I noticed performance issue's with CoverFlow in the music section. I rendered my thumbnails to the second highest settings, this did seem to improve performance but still once I scroll through about 20 covers, gfx become jumpy, though once I have gone through these images the whole thing is silky smooth.

It seems that the system is not buffering the artwork ahead of time.

One thing you can really do to through the system in to a spaz is.

1. Goto Music/CoverFlow
2. Hit for example the number 7 on your remote taking you to "P"
3. Watch as the system take a minute to get there buffering each image slowly at a time.

Hope I have described my self clearly enough.

It is worth noting that once you have scrolled through your list of albums and/or artists that the problem no longer happens. I think it's simply that every thing is not getting placed in the cache or buffered effectively, I'm not a programmer but that seems to be the case... I understand there is only a limited amount of video memory that can be used but I've seen other platforms implement this effect on much less powerful platforms so it must be doable.

AW: Coverflow slows down, gfx not buffered enough.

    Hello.
I have a similar issue. It's only on TVSeries CowerFlow. After first entering TVSeries I have to wait about 1 Minute while HD is working heavily. As long as those HD activity isn't finished CowerFlow is painful slow. But I have this only with TVSeries, so I thought it is an issue of the Plugin. Longer lists I have eg. in MovingPictures or Music where this problem didn't appear.

P.S. my Sys Specs are up to date ;)

Can confirm this issue with MyMusic!

    Reproduce:

    1. Start MP
    2. Go to MyMusic (Share View) with CoverFlow
    3. Hit for example the number 7 on your remote taking you to P ->
    4. MP jumps forward to "Z" and back to "B", forward to "Y" and back to "C" ...... !
    5. It takes ~ 3 minutes till "P" is achieved!

    Will mantis it later!

    Best regards

How many items do you have in the flow?

I worked with Guzzi on something that might fix this.

But the fact is, the coverflow has some issues with texture loading.

We have discussed this in the past and I was told that it was because coverflow was not designed to cope with big lists.

It would be very very very nice to get this really smooth as I have something that needs this :)

I tested the patch here with lists > 5000 and I am already quite happy - also suggested a workaround that prevents the "jumping" mentioned above - but SE should decide, if that's a good way to go ...

since 1.2 alpha i thought the jumps and the choppy scrolling would be the reason of my "old" hardware and hoped this would improve with release of 1.2 beta but it was not... so i would be very happy, too, if you really found a solution to get the coverflow scrolling smooth in the end...

...did another test with 50.000 items - that is fine too.
But you have to make a difference between "smooth flow animation" and the problem mentioned above about "hanging and jumping".
The latter I think we can fix for 1.2, the first probably not, as it requires massive changes in the skin engine.
But fixing the problem above improved overall experience a lot here ...
