    Hi,
Is it normal that the CPU load for MediaPortal is 20-30% in idle state? If I use Basic home screen, the load is about 20-30%. But if I use Classic home screen, the load is between 10 and 20% in idle state. Tried both StreamedMP and Mustayaluca skins, same results. I don't think this is normal. Looked in the MediaPortal log, could not find any errors there. Maybe some configuration wrong.
Any idea what could be wrong? The fan RPM has been over 5000 rpm, and you could imagine the noise!!

First: 20-30 % load should nok make your fan go 5K RPM. Play around with SpeedFan for better control.

Second: The increased CPU load might be related to RSS and hi-res fanart w/fancy effects, but logs could tell more. (You'll never get shouted at for posting logs. You might get for not :D).

    Hi,

Here, sitting idle in basic home, MP uses 0-2%. Perhaps it's one of your plugins? See what happens if you start MP using 'MediaPortal Debug-Mode' choosing the first option. If your problem remains, please post the resulting .zip-file.

Here is log, now the CPU is 20-30%, but I noticed when the fanart changes, the cpu goes over 60%, and back to 20-30%

How is CPU load when using debug+"Report Bug To Team MP" (meaning no plugins and default skin)?

Mine is the same, around 20-30% use idle, without plugins enabled 0-2%, so the overhead is caused by a combination of plugins and I have a lot :)

Will see if I can pin it down to anyone in particular, as I'm at home with a not very well kid this morning :(

I'll see without plugins, take one out at a time. I got a few.

    You don't need to! :)
Just run Start -> --> --> MediaPortal -> MediaPortal Debug Mode - Check first option.

This will also give good logs.

This will also give good logs
    .

Which tell you the plugins that are using up cpu cycles, it will not.

    After a quick test found

All plugins disabled bar default, using defaultwide 0 - 2% cpu
    using Avalon 12%
    Backdrop 17%
Believe these last skins are trying to get fanart which is not available.

Avalon + infoservice + fanarthandler, starts at 50% then after a minute settles down to 15%, but still gave 30 second 50% spikes, this is fanart time change I suspect as its set in fanarthandler

Then I jumped a bit, by enabling all other plugins, ie FTR, onebuttonmusic, IFC, Subcentral, mylyrics etc big list :), this is where results went weird, started at 70% cpu, after 1 minute dropped to 0 - 2% with 30 second spikes of 50%

Finally added both MovPics + TVSeries plugins, on start cpu shot to 80%, after 2 minutes, cpu dropped to 14% with spikes of 50% on fanart change.
Just to prove last bit, I changed fanarthandlers change fanart time from 30 seconds to 120 seconds, this then matched the spikes seen in MP cpu use exactly.

Changing back to having defaultwide as skin with all above enabled, reduced cpu on basichome to 10% with small spikes, these were not large enough to monitor accurately.

Hope this info of some use, but it looks like fanart is a big drain as it is currently implemented, both from the plugin and skin handling aspects.

Now I have to work out why one result, without MovPics\TVSeries gave 0-2%, will do a retest on that.

Following is the logs, but I'm sure it has something about the basic/classic home screen. If I use basic, the cpu is between 20 and 30%, but if I use classic, the cpu is under 10% on Idle.

Edit: Saw your post Ray after I posted mine. As the basic home screen is fanart driven, but the classic is not, I would like to think that the Fanart plugin is to blame.
