In 0.4 the service and WebMediaPortal use different user databases: with accounts created in WebMediaPortal you can only login in WebMediaPortal, and they don't show up in the configuration program. Users created there have only access to the services, not to WebMediaPortal. In 0.5 these will be merged and you'll get the behaviour you expected.The emailaddress is because WebMP uses Micrsoft's default membersystem implementation from ASP.NET MVC and it was a bit hard to remove it's emailaddress field. It isn't used anywhere, just enter some garbage that looks like an mailaddress.
