Heh thought Id give all you guys a laugh. Ive got an M-Audio revolution sound card was highly rated here and there. Its got a 1v signal out so it feeds my parasound power amp (once again pretty wang) direct without a pre-amp. The amp is actually a six channel but Im bridging four channels channels to give me 180wRMSx2 at 8 ohms.... This amp drives two massive cerwin-vega e-315s (15 inch woofers). Needless to say I cant be in the room with them turned right up! So Ive had this setup for about six months pretty proud of it. I was having a fiddle the other day with my setup and realised I had been running these speakers mono since Ive had them! Was kinda stoked that Id discovered a new 'feature' (stereo) and a wee bit embarrassed. Couldnt tell by listening to them! So cant justify (from this experience) ever spending 10x the dollars to get 0.1x the audible sound quality. Maybe my hearing is just fooked from too much loud speakers I dunno. Anyway, laugh it up! Cheers,
Matt

No idea how it actually performs, but it looks the part :)

    GeekStuff4U.com - ONKYO SE-200PCI LTD

Looks far far better than any Creative offering.

But why wasting money? Simply buy a CM3738 based soundcard for 20 EUR and you get bitperfect playback of 44.1, 48, and 96 khz sources. What could be better than bitperfect?

This of course is only true if all DA transformation is done externally at the audio equipment (Which IMHO is the only way to go for best results).

So what would the point be of buying a top of the range sound card? do they make no difference?
The Auzentech Prelude 7.1 can output dolby digital live i.e. it can convert sound coming from your games or mp3s or so on to a DDL stream that you can throw out to your amp. Maybe someone can tell me why I would want DDL out instead of LPCM but I know that is a difference!
