Hi Guys,

I guess I'm just trying to get advice on what to do here.

I have used MePo to provide the main TV channel and clients for over two years. I was using Win7 x86 (32 bit). Last week I upgraded to Win7 x 64 so I could use 8Gb of RAM for timeshifting. It now appears that the upgrade was a huge mistake. I have never had so many problems with MP since going to x64. The TV Server part was stable, no problems at all, however the MP Client was just plain bad. I couldn't use the search function (although I could on the clients), I couldn't use record (it worked on the clients), I couldn't go into recorded TV section (I could on the clients). Twice a day I was getting "side by side configuration is incorrect" error box popping up and had to reinstall the client. Powerscheduler wouldn't work at all

I have done a completely clean reinstall this morning, but I am beginning to think that I may as well go back to the x86 (32 bit) version of Win7 as I never had a problem prior to the upgrade.

Any opinions on my next course of action???

Hi there,

I run w7 x64 on all my machines with no problems.

I find the whole installation/perfection thing hit and his - in that I can reinstall everyone one time and it works fine, do it again and I have issues. I don't think x64 is your issue, unless you have specific driver/compatibility issues?

If you can list our you individual issues with log files I'll have a look for you.

Hi Jay... thanks for the reply, I'm grateful for your offer.

Unfortunately it is now too late - I lost it earlier when trying to scan my Hauppauge card and TV Config kept locking up so I have now formatted and I'm going back to the 32 bit version. I just don't have the patience today - it was either format the HDD or throw the box through the window and just go back to the Sky box.

I doubt that I'll be able to use the extra RAM I bought, and also the licence for DataRAM RAMdisk but at least I'll be back to system I can use and works reliably.

I suppose out of the two options you had:

Through the window
Rebuild

You took the best option! lol

For me to rebuild my HTPC and get it all sorted (TV Series, Moving Pics, Sky EPG, TV channels, etc, etc) takes me about 6 hours from inserting the W7 DVD to being able to let the girlfriend use it. The initial W7 and MePo install is quite quick, its all the importing/correcting/configuring that takes ages!

Fingers crossed the 32bit install goes well.

ps - I ghost mine before I install any new software - takes about 10 minutes to make an image of the system drive. - got me out of a few pickles - especially with ATI software that doesnt always work!

I have similar (bad) experiences with 64-bit Win7 mostly with TV part and this way probably related to 64-bit driver of my TV card. Also I got weird connection issues with databases (both MySQL and SQL Server) plus other stuff.

With 32-bit version identical setup works fine.

@PD - a backup what ????

jay - 6 hours is about right. All seems tickety boo now. Had to scan 28.2E a couple of times as Ch4 HD wasn't showing up - it is now. Just going to re-import My TV Series and Moving Pictures and re-copy their databases and thumbs folders back over and then I am back to where I was last week.

Also, the DataRAM Ramdisk is working. I have 10Gb of RAM Fitted, it allows windows to access 4 and the remainder is used by ramdisk - works a treat. Now why didn't I try it first on 32 bit before upgrading to 64 bit?

Windows itself can only use 4gb, never said about any other program not accessing memory
