Dedicating Tuner cards to specific clients (1 Viewer)

I have searched the wiki and forums but didn't find an answer. I hope I didn't miss anything.

I would like to setup a TV server with multiple tuners (around 8) and dedicate each tuner to a specific client on my network.
It's important that each client gets sole access to a specific tuner on the server and not have access to the other tuners.

All tuners will be connected to the same SAT with the same channels.

Is this something that can be done in MediaPortal?

No, it can't be done without modifying the sourcecode..

..but with 8 tuners you're covering 8 transponders...

Did you know is that MP can play\record ALL channels on a single transponder, so in the likely event of all tuners being busy I would be amazed.

So theoretically speaking, if we have 8 tuners and eight users, and these 8 tuners are connected to the same sat and have the same channels, all users will face no problems watching the same channel at the same time, and switching between channels with no disruption to other users?

Will the users see duplicate channels (8 of each for example), or does MediaPortal take care of this? please ignore this question I found the answer in the wiki, it does in fact handle the duplicates by only displaying them once

Correct. TV Server will manage the sharing of the tuners seamlessly behind the scenes. If everyone was watching the same channel then only one tuner would be used. If somebody decides to change channel there will be no disruption to the 7 other users.

Additionally these 8 tuners might serve more than 8 channels as some of them will share the same transponder. The chances are good (depending on which satellite you use, where you are in the world) that you might be able to stream all the channels your users are interested in parallel.

P.S.: Remember to use a switch when connecting the 8 tuners to the SAT - otherwise you will have issues selecting H/S polarization or high/low band.
