Actually, I think this might be it! Looks like mpeg4 is a part of h264. I'm using coreavc, however there is a bug when using it with MP, it crashes MP when changing channels, so I have to disable deinterlacing in coreavc.
So in fact it looks like changing other settings doesn't matter as even for SD channels coreavc is used.

I'll try using Nvidia drivers and see if it makes a difference.

    hmm well my tv is in mpeg2 so i dont know about channel changing with coreavc

    u could try powerdvd10 or SAF5 (unlocked included powerdvd codec - ask hoborg about the unlocked version)

    I can now confirm that h.264 codec is used for mpeg4 TV streams.
    So obviously changing the other codecs had no effect on deinterlacing.
