I suppose it's about time I posted here...

My name is Aaron, and I'm a Software Engineer.

I've only got 3 years professional experience, but I've been programming my whole life... Since I got a Commodore 64 as a kid.

Aside from all the little languages along the way, the bulk of my experience is in C#, C++, and Java. I've coded applications in C++ and C# as well as all the little bits and pieces a hobby programmer does. And of course I've written MediaPortal plugins in recent times.

I lurked around the forums for a long time looking for something to do and finally got started on the MCE Replacement Plugin. I've been developing it for some time now and I think I've become fairly familiar with the ins and outs of MediaPortal.

If the dev's would like me to jump in and work on something just let me know, I'm always looking for new projects. By the same token, if anyone has any Plugin ideas they would like developed, drop me a Private Message and I'll get back to you with what I think.

I'm currently Unemployed. Which is giving me a lot of time to work on MediaPortal related stuff (But not a lot of money :() So use me while you can :)

Oh, and if you're an employer in Melbourne, Australia, drop me a PM ;)

    Cheers,

Aaron, you got a PM. ;)

Everyone else, just start digging in the code, find something useful you want to code to get your hands dirty. We're glad about every helping hand, of course.

I have just "found" Media Portal after struggling with Media Center for a long time. The fact I can debug something if it doesn't work is a great plus! I have 15 years professional experience, most of that in Pascal and Delphi. None in C#, but c# is fairly easy for us Delphi devleopers. I have started looking at the code, and am pretty impressed. I've started writing a pugin to wake up the server over lan, which is going surprisingly well considering this is all new to me. I know that this functionality will be added to powerscheduler, but it's more a way of getting stuck in really. If anyone has any ideas of anything else I could do, pm me!!

    Hi Babnik42,

If you dig through the various improvement suggestions I think you can find something to work on. What works best (at least for me) is picking up something YOU like to do or see working in MP. This helps keeping you motivated. ;-) Like mPod already mentioned in the post above, every helping hand is more than welcome.

    Kind regards,
    Michel

I code since I can remember. Started a bit Basic on the Video Genie, later Pascal on a CP/M Machine called "Osbourne". (Still got that machine :) ). osbourne.jpg (yep. That tiny thing in the middle is the monitor... ;)

I stayed quite a while using different Pascal Versions (Turbo Pascal, Quick Pascal). Then I made the wrong decision and changed to Visual Basic. Well it was damn simpel.

It took quite a while until I was brave enough to change to C. To be honest: I had to, cause of my study, where C, C++ and C# nearly had to be learned in the same time.

I finished Studiing 1.5 years ago and are now a C# Developer where my main topics are GUI-Related (actually I'm fighting with XAML), Database-Stuff, and Client-Server Programs. I'm also proud of having my .NET Program run on Linux via Mono ;) (including Windows Forms and ASP an Apache :) )

The last big private project was a GUI for my MAME-Machine:123

So. I am 33 which is damn old :) but perhaps some of you expected me to be older reading my "computer history".

Actually I'm waiting for my HTPC to arrive and thats why I had time to think about what I am missing in MediaPortal. Mostly: ICQ. So I started developing a bit and it seems to work quite well. Connecting, Receiving, Sending: All working fine, but without any GUI Stuff.

When/If I ever finish the ICQ-Stuff I thought about a google earth-plugin. Since I already included that stuff with automatic waypoints on my website: shouldnt be that difficult.

is it not possible to setup VS 2005 to download the SVN code?

Or do I have to use that program you reffere to? (TortoiseSVN)

Don't matter... Ill try that program..

Well... to months from now and MP is in ver. 1.0 ;) LOL

Ill try to look at the code to night, and see if I can find out how to develop something :)

    James,

Am just starting to get into the code and have managed to get simple things to work from the source directories xbmc\bin\debug and release.
This appears to use a different LocaisationProvider to the one installed by the latest svn build for TV server and MediaPortal client.

The svn version requires a directory for each language under the Mediaportal\Language directory. Each contains the file strings.xml

The source I have downloaded and complied appears to use a new structure with mulitple string files in the Language directory of the form "strings_en.xml", etc.

Is this a change that is yet to be picked up by the svn builds?

    I program in c, c++, c#, fortran(begrudingly), sql.

    Thanks

    Hey,

    I'd really like to help.
I'm a student [ICT], I know J# and I'm learning C# atm. (also AS, JS, CSS, XHTML, ...)

    What's holding me back?
I don't know how to start, where to find the code, who to contact, etc...
This would be my first opensource project in which I participate.

    What I'd like to do:
Improve the configuration tool! Especially the part where the configuration of the movie-database is done.
I've spent over 3 days now, configuring my database, which could have been shorter if some functions were added/changed. So I'd like to do that before configuring my other htpc ;)
