Different picture quality through CyberLink PowerDVD 8 (1 Viewer)

Since using Media Portal, I have found the picture to be a little off colour and not as clear as I would have thought it should have been.

I installed Cyberlink Power DVD 8, and when I play the same video files through this software the picture is perfect, black is black unlike through Media Portal, my black is a dark grey.

Under the settings Media Portal Configuration - Videos - Video Player - I have the Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8) selected, however the picture is not the same quality as when playing through Cyberlink.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Hi rorier

I don't know if this will help you but if you have an Nvidia card, in the Nvidia Control Panel, under Video & Television, Adjust video colour settings, if you select "With the NVIDIA settings" and the "Advanced" tab there is an option to change the Dynamic range from "Limitied (16-235)" to "Full (0-255)".

If you are using an ATI card I assume there is a similar setting.

As I said, I don't know if this will help, but may be worth a try. I believe that MediaPortal uses the graphic card settings for deciding the colourspace whereas PowerDVD be using its own settings.

Hi Mew,

Thanks very very very much you were spot on!

I didn't realize it was something so simple. I have been trying different codecs and couldn't work out what was wrong.

Thanks very much for your help!!
