Different skip forward than back? (1 Viewer)

I am still transitioning from media center to media portal, and one of the things I miss from media center was the 30 second forward skip, and the 8 second back skip. I am aware that mediaportal has steps, but they are the same for a step forward or backward. Is there any way to set a step forward for 30, and a different value for a skip backward, like 8? I also don't want to set to steps with 8 and 30, because I want them to be instantaneous, so I have set the time before skip to 0ms. That is why I cant use more than one step.

Thanks in advance,
James

I agree with this. Who ever heard of the same skip steps for forward and backward? This is so annoying that I've moved back to Windows Media Center for now. This and the insufficient Netflix support keeps me from using this software. :(

kazooless:

I wouldn't write off MediaPortal because of the skip steps. It is far superior to Media Center in several respects once you have your system setup. Now don't get me wrong, MediaPortal will take time to configure, but that is the beauty of the program. You have SO MUCH more customizability than with VMC/7MC. With some thinking, you are likely to find a way to do what you want. For example:

1- It is true there is no separate times for skip forward/back, but that is ok because with a couple settings changed on just one page, I was able to mimic skipping in Media Center. If you go to MediaPortal Configuration -> General -> Skip Steps

Change the "Define skip steps manually: " to "8". NOTHING ELSE. Then, change the timeout to 0, and the immediate skip steps (up/down) to Constant (seconds), with a skip value of 30. Done! MediaPortal will now skip just like Media Center. What I did next is optional, but I went in and changed the two buttons on the remote for skipping to be the ones from Media Center, and I am done!

2- As for Netflix, have you looked at the "My Netflix" plugin? It is awesome and serves my needs without a problem. Once again, a little setup but nothing too dramatic.

I will admit that I had tried switching to MediaPortal once or twice, then running back before finally making the full leap. I just wasn't able to figure it out all in one try, but I HIGHLY suggest making the attempt. You will be impressed with all of the settings available to you, and your media system will blow peoples minds away!!! If you have any questions or have any problems, I would be happy to help if you PM me.

Good Luck!

I did think of using the two different skip steps, but I had trouble configuring the remote buttons. I use a Harmony remote, but it just thinks it is a Windows Media Center remote. So, how did you change the remote keys?

Also, the My Netflix only plays in a window when I use the streaming method. I have to pull out the keyboard and click on Full Screen every time I use it, so blah. I don't have to do that in MC.

What bothers me is there is so much potential in all of these different packages, but they all have some sort of detail missing. WMC covers all of the details to make it comfortable to use, but it is ugly and buggy when it comes to extra codecs (like to watch MKV files).

PS I did get the TV EPG to work finally but that was a major pain as well.
