so maybe you misunderstood the intentions of this, or even of MP ;- )

my intention with MP is to BAN the regular TV out of the livingroom, because of waful comfort, no timeshifting etc...
and INtention of THIS is to enable streaming of LIVE-TV, and not accessing Records via Shared Folders!

Hey, noone forces you to use it ;-)

No, i'm jokin' ...
I think it will be possible to use a full MP-installation as recieving client. But hopefully also WMP, VLC etc...(depending on available codecs for...)

I definately understood what you were discussing about, I'm only not that serious ;-)... I think it will be great if I could have an MP installation in my bedroom which uses the tv card from the "server" in the livingroom, but just think of the little hint I gave regarding the recorded tv... :D Let the client be updated with the same info as the server...

    Hi Guys,

maybe it's some kind of heresy to post the following suggestion in a mp forum, but what about a mp plugin for a mythtv backend?
There is a project on sourceforge called winmyth (or something like that) that controls timeshifting, live tv and recording on a remote linux/mythtv server via a winxp client.

If it is not too much effort to derive a mp plugin from the existing winmyth client it could become an appropriate workaround as long as mp's architecture is not client/server. All other functions (music, pics, videos, ...) could still be handled from the mp client, only the "My TV" part would be replaced.

    Just my two cents...

    Ciao,

nice idea, but not my target... the time to get this mythTV stuff workin would be probably the same as developing this plugin...
Well as i am used to Linux, i dont think mythTV Setup is a problem for me, but MP is a Windows App, and to be honest, i dont think the default MediaPortal-User is able to even seriously install a linux, install the right drivers for his TV-card ...

My target is(and hopefully this of the other guys too), to create a MP extension(wont call this a plugin) that enables even a 8 year old child to connect the Client to the other machine, and maybe enables his father to setup the server and the client...

That seems a little patronising to me...

sry, this was not my intention, but have you ever tried to get things running under linux?
This is not the easy Windows way, klicking on a setup.exe. It starts maybe with search for the driver, continues with patching and recompiling the kernel, and ends with loading the module if you have been succesfull... IF

so i am sorry and do not want to be arrogant in any way!
But i.e. my mother wont be able to do this ...
