Hi All,

Ok ive done a fair bit of reading on this and cant find someone saying the same thing. Basically I can only get digital sound out of WMV files if...

1. I install AC3Filter.
2. I set AC3Filter to use SPDIF.
3. In MP config enable AC3Filter as a Post-Processing codec.

I got the idea to do this from another post here somewhere over a year ago. I remember reading about there being talk of the latest version of MP having an option to do this (which was said in like 2007). Then its as if no one had the same issue again.

I should note that on the codec screen for the Videos MP config setting the "Use 5.1 sound for WMV files" doesnt do anything for me. So if i dont have AC3Filter but just SAF, and then try that setting it doesnt give me digital sound.

I dont think this is right for some reason especially as the SAF post says DONT INSTALL AC3Filter FOR FEAR OF DOUBLE DECODING.

Without AC3Filter installed i get digital sound perfectly from MKV files.

Anyone got any ideas why i have this problem? I only have the cpdecs recommended in the SAF post except for the addition of CoreAVC for h.264. I am running SAF 3.45 but experienced on all prior versions too.

Please someone save the day! :)

I usaly avoid WMV files, but yes got same problems as you.. 5.1 doesn't work in my situation.. (SPDIF - Toslink) Only when i post-process AC3Filter.

Did you already try SAF 4.00? I am running BETA17 right now currently fine. Since FFDshow has been introduced it looks like a completely new situation for you maybe worth a try.

Yeh im on the latest now. Originally i thought that just ticking the box in the MP settings should do it. But after reading so many people use the MP Post Processing AC3Filter to do it, ive just accepted that it IS normal what i have to do :)

    Thanks all tho!
