I'm beginning to dive deeper into understanding the ins & outs of different codecs and video sw/hw decoding. In the process of this one thing has struck me, how does the MP post processing feature work?

For example;

My MPEG2 codec is PowerDVD 7 which also does hardware (AVIVO) deinterlacing, I post process the image with ffdshow to scale it upto 1920x1080 and zoom in x1.

Now this would tell me that the video image is sent to my GPU to be decoded and deinterlaced, then sent back to the CPU to be scaled, and finally sent back to the GPU to be sent to my TV... I was under the impression that once video is sent to the GPU it cannot be sent back to the CPU, so at what stage is my video 'post processed'?

    Using post processing will always disable the HW acceleration. No matter what directshow based player you are going to use. So using ffdshow with PowerDVD codec will cause the codec to fallback into software decoding.

    Right. So is there any way to get AVIVO working and my video upscaled to 1920x1080? Atm this is not happening with every video/TV channel (see first post) despite the desktop being set at this resolution.
