@Owlsroost: First of all: thank you for your effort! And sorry for answering so late as I was trying different things and didn't have much time anyway. After mp 1.9 got released I set up my system completely new and again tried various combinations of all the things that have to do with a smooth playback, as there are: -default refresh rate of both displays (I'm using a second display for running mpd++ on it which might be the root of all my problems) -cross changed the graphic card for pri/sec display to see (now the HD 5450 runs the pri and the HD2000 the sec display) -mp dynamic refresh rate settings -codecs for video as for audio Now I have found a combination where the playback is much better. It still shows dropouts but much less than before. However it is at a level I could live with. Of course I would do everything to get it running comletely smooth. Unfortunately the symptoms have now changed a bit. Because now the sound is not being interrupted but the picture stops for a blink of an eye every couple of minutes. As if the sound would be the faster of both now... And despite the fact that I said it would only be with sd channels I now have to revise that. It hasn't been only with sd befor and even now it is as well with hd channels. As I am a bit in a hurry at the moment I will try your tsreader later this afternoon but thank you so much so far!
