Okay, getting closer.
For those that are interested (or may be able to help).
I'm now closer to a solution.
It seems that a lot of USB soundcards don't support true SPDIF output.
To get around this you can use AC3Filter in "SPDIF as PCM" mode.
This works perfectly for me and it turns out is what WinDVD uses to get it working.
The problem now is that AC3Filter will someones output 'static' (Raw digital to the speakers) on the same DVD that just worked in the same configuration just a few minutes earlier.
Any help would be appreciated.
