Okay, getting closer.

For those that are interested (or may be able to help).

I'm now closer to a solution.
It seems that a lot of USB soundcards don't support true SPDIF output.

To get around this you can use AC3Filter in "SPDIF as PCM" mode.
This works perfectly for me and it turns out is what WinDVD uses to get it working.

The problem now is that AC3Filter will someones output 'static' (Raw digital to the speakers) on the same DVD that just worked in the same configuration just a few minutes earlier.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try with reg value
AUDIO = 6
AUDIOCHAN = 7

My mediaportal 2.0.4 had this number reversed!!! :mad:
I take 1 hour but now it's ok.

My sound card is an SB X-fi.
I hope this help you.

    Spdif? It's an optic cable. When it's on you can see a red light coming out.
    Not really... It's a protocol. You're talking about Toslink (optical), but SPDIF can also be transmitted via coax.

    Thanks! I've always seen optical cable associated with spdif signal, and I thought it was the only media possible.

    Bye

    Hi,
    had the same problem.. although Digital worked fine in WMP,VLC and WMPC it didnt in MP. I tried all settings and codecs and finally saw the 'connect To' option in FFDShow's Decoder options. Changed that to WaveOut and voila. (I know I really should have checked that first.. not just ffdshows main codecs tab. Instead, I tried setting the renderer in MP which must be DirectSound)

    Just my 2 cents.. better late than never!
