I'm always having to change my video codec when i'm playing DVDs, sometimes one codec works with 1 dvd other times it doesnt. Which codec does everyone else use? And do you have to keep changing codecs? When i try to play my DVDs i hear the audio but cant see anything until i change the codec.

Question about the ATI AVIVO drivers.
I get three possible options.
- ATI CC multiplexer
- ATI MPEG multipleser
- ATI MPEG video Decoder

Whats the difference and which one works best?

Actually now i have bigger problems than that....

I upgraded to MP version 1.0 a few days ago and now i cant play any dvds. When i open them in windows media player i get this error "windows media player cannot play this dvd because there is a problem with digital copy protection betwen your dvd drive, decoder, and video card" The only other software i've installed is ffdshow (and i have removed that). I had automatic updates turned on and dont know if some driver was updated or if MP broke it. I have installed power DVD and that wont play them either, the only way they will play is with vlc.

Any thoughts?

Most likely it's the region code.

Which region do your dvds belong to? Remember that most dvd drives only have 5 changes to region code. The easiest way around this is to install Anydvd and the digital copy thing should be solved.

Ok well that worked, i'm not sure how since my DVD drive is region 1 and so is the DVD. I would rather not pay for a solution (since it worked before), so anyone have any other ideas? Everywhere i've read said that it's a problem with a codec, something installed doesn't work well together. Is their a spot somewhere that i could configure it to use a different codec? Like powerdvd? or Win DVD, etc...?

What are the codecs you installed? Did you install any codec pack like K-lite? My advice is to install CCCP and be done with it. If you need to playback quicktime files and rm files, just install quicktime and realplayer.

If you want a permanent solution and are still using a dvd drive, go to forums like cdfreaks and look up firmware to flash your drive into a regionfree one.

If you are using a HD DVD/BLU drive like me, I think it's better to use Anydvd.

If you do not want to pay and you are still using XP, I recommend getting this program called "DVD Regionfree" to bypass region code. It works like a no-frills Anydvd and it's freeware except that the last working version is for XP only.

Did you find a fix for this yet? Just curious...
